    Absence of records

You've got the right William Francis Young. He died in 1967. Just have no details whatsoever about his war record. No pension record, medals or anything at all. I'd never heard of the absent voters list. Definitely one to find. Thanks. Marian

    Absence of records

Thanks for those links Steve. I haven't found either of the men yet. If nothing else I shall have a far better understanding of what my ancestor went through. I've found a relative who thinks they know who may have the photo of him in uniform. Of course it may not have anything as useful as a...

    Birth at sea

Thank you. That puts another slant on it. I suppose there have to have been a lot of sailors in and around Bristol so finding one wouldn't be too surprising. I shall attempt to find out more about Edward Hodge. Marian

    Absence of records

I had no idea that that quantity of records went up in flames. I knew some had. I've searched as far as I can for the brother-in-law and found medal cards, death record, and soldiers effects. What I didn't find was the enlistment form. Sadly there are no relatives to ask as he only left a...

    Birth at sea

Thank you. I never thought to put the name the census entry was under -but clearly you found it! I'll try to remember that in future. I'll have a hunt around and see if that baptism is for her. It certainly looks possible. All the more so as the first witness at Emma's marriage was Edward...

    Birth at sea

I would love to know more about the birth of Emma Ann HODGE in 1801. The birthplace description on the 1851 census reads "On board BS Asia". Later censuses simply say "At Sea". The only records for births at sea that I've found so far start in 1844. Is there somewhere that details earlier...

    Absence of records

My Great-Grandfather William Francis Young (b.22.7.1881) is supposed to have enlisted with his brother-in-law. The latter's records showing that he was in the 8th Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment are online. As is the image of his name on the Tyne Cot Memorial. But nothing at all is...

    Ex-lurker alert!

Hello. I've been researching my tree for about twenty years now and repeatedly come to a halt somewhere. If I'm patient, and just go and work on other branches instead, then the information I need will often appear as more and more stuff gets put online. But, I have some dead ends that appear...
