Wow - that's a big help. I don't think I need further details on those census's. I'm thinking perhaps this grand "Hotel" story is actually a smaller hotel/pub, maybe even the Castle&Fountain?? I know someone in Liverpool who can check on that. Thanks again!

Julie - I see you're in London. Have you ever heard of a 'Gledhill Hotel' there? It would have existed around 1890 or so, that's when my g.father purportedly played in it's basement as a boy(my mother said his father owned the hotel). I can find census references of Sarah (Sarah Helen...

I've sent for some birth & marriage certificates. I've been able to determine that Thomas Hughes Jones was b.1882, Dewsbury Yorkshire. I think his parent's names were Robert & Sarah. What the connection to Sir Alfred Lewis Jones may be is yet a mystery.

My sister tells me that Thomas & Annie lived for a long time in London, where Tom taught violin in some capacity. He was a gifted violinist, she says. She remembers a story about Tom amusing himself as a boy by playing with the rats in the basement of a big hotel in London that his father...

I found a few pages of my g-father’s (Thomas Hugh Jones) journal. He was conductor of an orchestra for the Cunard Line during the teens & 20’s, S.ampton/Cherbourg/New York route (Aquitania, Berengaria, Mauretania). In the journal he writes of a visit w/ his Aunt Helen on her birthday (May 13) at...

Hello all - I’m new here, & never done any genealogical research before, so please forgive me for my lack of pertinent knowledge. A recent discovery has piqued my interest. I’ll be sending off for primary sources from various places as soon as possible. So, for anyone this story might...
