Many thanks Dave & gibbo, there is possibly a connection with a William, Joseph had a brother William brn 1835 OSM, maybe he is the member of the family that went to Australia in the mid 1860's and died there.

I have been looking through Ancestry and have found a Joseph Channon brn 1836 and died Queenstown South Australia 9 Feb 1898, but not sure if this is the correct Joseph, would a death certificate have his occupation etc.
There appears to be two Joseph's brn around 1835-7...
I am trying to find info on the above member of my family tree, Joseph was brn in 1837 to William & Mary in OSM Devon. I can follow him upto the 1861 uk census where he is in the Crediton Workhouse as a Schoolmaster, after this time he is not in any further censuses. I've checked...
