Thank you for your help, I have actual copies of the passenger list when they arrived on SS Columbia.
Perhaps you can answer a question for me. I have copies of 3 death certificates for my ggrandfather John Hammond b:1840 Donegal, Ireland. Any one of the three could work for different various...
I've discovered 1868 Mathew Hammond died the day he was born according to official Irish records.
Now I'm looking for Birth Cert. for Mathew 1883 with Eliza Anne Finlay as his mother & John Hammond as his father.
All in Donegal - John b:1840 & Eliza b:1843.
Thanks for any help.
A Mathew Hammond was born 1868 Donegal, Ireland according to official Irish records. His surviving children insist he was born 1883 (no official records.) I know many records were destroyed in fire. Is there any proof that 1868 survived?
The plot thickens here. Father John Hammond b:1840...
Found more bits of info on John Hammond today.
In the 1901 Census of Ireland 1901, I found a John Hammond, 59 yrs (right age),
grocer, head of family, not married (Marg. left 1901 - not 1902 I discovered frm another source). Curious that he sees himself H of F when he has no family.
Thank you for responding. I know you're trying to help me. I hope we get a response to your request for help.
One more thg that troubles me is the myth that seems to have been perpetuated. In letters frm Ireland & fam members I've spoken to via text, email
etc. it's always the same scenario...
Thank you for your referral to donegal.rootsireland.ie/ I entered "John Hammond
died 1909 Shankill Co Belfast City, Antrin" They did confirm they had that entry
but I have to pay a fee to actually look at the record. I'd be happy to do that if
I had assurance that I would know what age he...
I'm not assuming John died before 1902 when Margaret took the last of her 8 children to America. She started sending them in 1895.
In my ongoing search & note taking, came across this piece of research: John Hammond died 1909 in Shankill Co. Belfast City, Antrin. I attempted to confirm this...
Need death date for ggrandfather John Hammond
John Hammond b:30Nov1842 - married Margaret Miller 26Dec1864 had 10 children in Donegal, Ireland. Things were hard then.
Margaret sent her children by two at a time to America. She took her youngest w/her when she emigrated in 1902. She left two...
Searching for John Hammond
Thank you SO much for the info. I had looked on the FamilySearch & found the marriage record, but there was no birth date. When I looked for the IGI -
there it was! So many Hammond geneologists have been looking for so long!!
This is a fantastic...
Thank you oznannie for the info. Rebecca was the last child born to John & Margaret Hammond. She was Margaret's traveling companion when they sailed to America in 1901 - or so I was told.
But John is the mystery man.
Thanks for passing this on.
The family mantra for the past 40 yrs has been "John Hammond was born in Donegal & died in Donegal". No one seems to know exactly when. And there are so many John Hammonds.
He is my ggrandfather & married Margaraet Miller 26 Dec 1864; stated on the certificate when he married that he was...
Sorry for the last aborted start. I'm a novice at this.
Am searching for my ggrandparents, Margaret & John Hammond, m:1864 in Donegal. Hope they might have shown up on that census in Donnegal. I have quite a bit on Margaret - but I have no birth or death date for John - only the...
My name is Maralee. I've decided to continue the work that was started by my mother's Irish relatives, all now deceased, documenting the family's exodus to America.
I'm a novice at genealogy but find it extremely interesting. Being the last one
of my family of origin, it's...
