    Edward Albert McClure

Thank you - I can discount this record because I am reliably informed that to be recruited at the age of 9 into the Grenadier Guards his father would have been a Guardsman too. So the regiment is wrong. I will try to foolw thought this line a bit more to see where it leads.

I am trying to trace a records for the parents of Edward Albert McClure. I have a date of birth of 25/4/1852, but can find no record of his birth. There is a suggestion that he spend his first 9 years in an London orphanage. I have details of his military career: Enlisted in the Ist Battalion...

I have found his army record which gives a little more. He enlisted in the army as aboy aged 91/2 years old in Oct 1861 and was discharge in July 1872 on medical grounds. His place of birth is given as St Margarets Parish, Westminister. The information points to his birth in May 1852...

    McClure, Albert Edward

In the various census records Albert Edward McClure says he was born in London some times but in the 1891 census it says N. K. which I assume means not known. In 1871 he is listed as a drummer in the Grenadier Guards my understanding is that to become so his farther was also probably a Guards...

His date of birth would be about 1852...

Hi - Im starting on the family tree quest

Thank you for the encouraging responses. I have a question as a result if Albert Edward was an Army registered birth where would I find that information? I have also been told that to be a drummer in the Guards regiment your father would have served in the regiment too, is this correct...

Hi - Im starting on the family tree quest

I have recently retired and I am using my new found free time to learn about our family history for both my side and my wife's family. I was hoping that this would be fairly straight forward but I quickly came up with some stops and I am not sure where to look to find the information. I have...
