    WWI soldier tracing.

    Hi, He was born around 1898 in Stockton, this much I have found from 1901 census results. As said, the only record that keeps cropping up with reference the regiment, is 'Yorks Reg.' It was quite a big reg., divided into many groups as I understand it. Really wish I knew how to narrow it...

    How do I indentify regiment?

    Thank you! His name was Edward Weall. He fought in WW1. Reg no. 38518 Yorks regiment. Then, Reg no. 381848 Labour Corp. Thats about all we know. I have found his medal record file on Ancestry.co.uk, but literally nothing else! Any help is greatly welcomed, thanks again!

    Thanks! Looked on there, found his medal card. States he was 'Yorks.Regiment (number)38518' Then 'Labour Corps (number)381848' Just says Yorks, no hint at which Yorks, as there were a few of them. God this is proving tricky! Spent good few hours online searching, just seem to be going round...

    there is a service number, but I dont know of a way to tally this with a particular regiment. Any ideas people?

    My Paternal great grand father fought in WW1. I have his medals and I cherish them. On the box they came in, the original packaging, it states 'York.R'. I'm assuming this is Yorkshire regiment, but which one? Is there a way of determining which one he was in?

    In the image that I have, he isn't wearing a cap. Sadly. Is there a list of names linked to regiments online? I have no idea which regiment he was in, if I can find that out, I feel that is a great start. I have tried Ancestry again, and still no luck.

    My paternal great grandfather fought in WWI. He was awarded campaign medals, and I have a photograph of him in uniform from the period. I do not know the regiment he fought in, or where he saw service. I have tried using the WWI search on Ancestry.co.uk, and found nothing. One previous search...
