FYI. I guess that that Edgar and Charlotte being poverty stricken would not have had birthday count high on their list of priorities. SImilarly Elizabeth Richardson. I can find no other likely candidates for Charles Edgar in 1939, so I am inferrring for the moment that he is the correct one...

I will be working on a timeline the next few days to visualise the various record dates. and places. For the moment I am optimistically working on the basis that: - Vincent, Charles Edgar m Richardson, Agnes with children including Charles Alfred and Frederick Edgar are valid, give or take...

So based on location Stepney/Stratford/West Ham on the records this could be - unrelated ie other Vincents in the area. - a child death in the family? I don't think it is father or mother.

I assume that conception out of wedlock did occur in that era. Married in Sept born in Oct/Nov/Dec? Scandalous I guess. Nevertheless the census dates and age arithmetic are still out by zero for the 1961 date and age but out by 1 or 2 years for the other two census/age combinations. Is this...

A question on this I note that the file reference for all the children is "4b". Is the file reference then a family file? Does having the same file reference confirm any relationship, or is it just chance or other collation reference?

Yes. The automated connection of FS records is probably right - but needs to be validated. My recent Ancestry tree appears to be more correct, although lots of sources still to be validated, then other trees with the Vincent names. I think that this is largely as the other trees are following...

I suspect this is not the right Vincent. All the children baptism, census, electoral records etc centre around St Stephens and Rampant Horse St and Red Lion St around which I understand their was a hotel. Charles Alfrted and Frederick Edgar were hotelkeepers/barmen in South Africa. Family...

    Learning about UK records

I suspect this is the right Vincent as I too cannot find other references. However, time in the work house, and my assumption on education levels may have dimmed the memory (said lightly). Census age for Vincent, Charles Edgar 1851 - 11yrs old = 1840 (as son in Tendring House) 1861 - 23yrs old...
