While reading through some old wartime family letters I've learned that my great grandmother used to sing at concerts during WW1 that took place at (I believe) army bases. (For example one letter makes reference to the Pirbright concert on 3 May 1915).Is there any way I can find out more about...
I've asked about this ancestor before but in a different context because I've been barking up the wrong tree! My original thread from January is here and it is because of all the brilliant replies I received that I've finally realised my premise - that Elizabeth was illegitimate - is false. I...
Thank you Dave but that wouldn't be him. He married my great great grandmother Emily Fox on 10 January 1889 as a widower. I've found a William John Hill marrying a Maria Gant in 1884 which could be him if the names have been mixed up.
He was born 27 April 1851 on the High Street, Stratford, Essex. It says he was unmarried on the 1881 census - I hadn't thought to check his condition as to marriage on the census! So, he must have married his first wife somewhere between 1881 and 1889.
Thank you for having a look for me.
I'm not sure I have enough information really to trace my great great grandfather's travels but wondered whether there was anyway I could find out more info.
My great great grandfather John William Hill travelled to South Africa at some point in his lifetime. According to his son's ww1 papers...
Hi,
I'm trying to work out if this census entry relates to my ancestor. I don't understand what the occupation entry means and thought someone here might know.
I've attached an image. Thanks ever so much.

Okay, I've managed to locate the marriage certificate of Elizabeth Matson and I was wrong, Robert Matson does not show as deceased. Anyhow the marriage was witnessed by a Charlotte Matson. As the marriage took place in 1850 Susannah was dead but it does seem plausible that Robert was her uncle.
Wow, thank you for so many replies. What a treasure trove of info to look into!
This is an interesting idea. I'll have a play with this one.
Thanks so much, I have a lot more to look into now :)
Hello, I wonder if you could help me shed some light on one of my ancestors who is listed as being illegitimate in the baptismal records.
My 3 x great grandmother Elizabeth Matson was baptised on 8 July 1821 at Stretton on Fosse, Warwickshire and on the records she is noted as having been...
