Hello Geoff, Thank you for the effort. The retired major is the same person, yes. Gail

Yes I had. I was able to locate a little bit of information on the indiafamily.bl.uk now that is up and working. That had a fair amount of information and helped fill in a couple of blanks date-wise.

    Introduction

Alrighty so an introduction. I am an aspiring writer with way too many hours of research put in. I've been doing genealogy work - mine, friends, strangers and individuals linked to RMS Titanic - since 2007 and classify myself as an intermediate researcher. I love history and researching. Little...

Great, thanks! Sometime between 1865 and 1874 he was exchanged to another regiment, but I'm not certain if rotation time had been coming up. Was it customary for officers to bring their wife and children with them when they went to India?

Many thanks for your response, Dave. With this family I've got a little bit of each so it is a plus (India records and census returns). I was hoping service records such as what is available on naval officers - which are goldmines of information - would be available. Does anything like that...

I wasn't sure where to put this thread! I am not overly familiar with searching out military records although I have browsed through some of the National Archives records, so if anyone could provide any pointers I'd be obliged. I am seeking information on Lt. Col. John Blair born about 1841 in...

Lovely! Thank you for the heads up. :)

    John William Binks

Many thanks for the effort. At present I'm trawling newspaper archives so perhaps that will provide some info. There is some sort of list which seems to point to John Jr. being involved in a couple of other shipping accidents, but apparently nothing major.

    Charles Rowbottom

Thank you, Julie, must have missed that one. I will have a look at it. Re FMP - I had seen several records for possible matches. In the 1930s his brother spoke of him in the present tense (although given the reason for the article it could have been purposefully even if Charles was deceased by...

Hello again Louise, Any luck with that Binks information we had spoken about previously? Gail

    Charles Rowbottom

I can't seem to find a death record for Charles Edward Hayden Rowbottom. He was born about 1871 in Hull, Yorkshire. His father, Walter Hayden Rowbottom, was a fisherman. Charles, or "Charlie", also went to sea. Presumably, he served his apprenticeship with Henry Fernie & Sons where he was the...

    John William Binks

Hello Louise, It was my pleasure, very happy to do it. Glad you found the information of some use. I don't think I already told you this (if I did, please excuse my forgetfulness). Capt. Binks served with at least one of the ill-fated Titanic's surviving officers. This was post-Titanic.

I'm a bit in the dark about the Loves! So far I have located two different marriages for a Thomas Love marrying a Sarah: *Thomas Love married Sarah Mason in 1825 in Broseley, Shropshire at Saint Leonard. *Thomas Love married Rebecca Sarah Griffiths in 1831 in Malinslee, Shropshire. As for Lucy...

Hello Louise, I'm not certain about Sarah's branch - was busy digging up things on the Binks line! :) But I will try to find something on it and let you know.

    John William Binks

If it is alright to post yet another update here is a little more information. I have linked up to another John Binks who I think, almost without a doubt, is the same person. The John Binks from the Isle of Man could be a John Binks born in Tollesbury, Essex to a William Binks and Maria Pewter...

    John William Binks

Something I missed last night - When John and Sarah were married John's martial status was listed as widowed.

It is a little odd looking at that. Regarding your first message - I did have to look it up to understand and at first thought it was something like the two-headed Tasmanian joke!

Thank you, leefer. My three legs - that's an unusual lot, isn't it? :)
