Yes he was a builder. Very successful in Mackay, according to the book 'early settlers of mackay', and was one of Mackay's pioneers. On his marriage cert, it states that his father was also a builder. He married Emilie in Rockhampton in 1860 so I assume he prob would have entered Australia...

Hi Dave, I have his marriage cert (1860) which states his parents' names and it states he was 25 then, but that makes it 1835 he was born. I have a copy of the book called 'early pioneers of mackay' which he is in and it states he was 'born about 1833'.

Thanks for all your replies!! I prob should have posted a bit more info. Edward died in 1920 in Queensland. I've visited his grave. It confused me also about Theodore Schroeter on his death cert, but that is his father-in-law. Don't know why they have his as his mother's name!! I've not found...

I've found out that my g-grandad, Arthur Holden b. 15 Jul 1894 Preston, Lancs, was a prisoner of war in WW1. That's all I know so far... How would I go about finding any more info on this? Many thanks Clare
