Thanks for your replies. He sure is a difficult fella to track down!! I tried to track down the lady who did the research on the Gracemere Hotel, but I've not had any success in getting hold of her. I just wonder where she found what she found. I haven't researched much about Edward lately...

Hi Mao, Thanks for replying. Can I ask more about your relationship to Edward? He was your great grandfather? Which of his children was your grandfather? He was my husband's great great grandfather, and Edward's son, William, was his great grandfather. As for the info I have on Edward, well...

thanks again for looking, Dave. Brick walls are very frustrating. I was hoping to trace where he came from in Edinburgh etc as we are going to the UK for 3 months in May and Hubby wanted to take a trip to Scotland to visit where his ancestors came from. We'll keep searching. Something may...

Yes he was a builder. Very successful in Mackay, according to the book 'early settlers of mackay', and was one of Mackay's pioneers. On his marriage cert, it states that his father was also a builder. He married Emilie in Rockhampton in 1860 so I assume he prob would have entered Australia...

Hi Dave, I have his marriage cert (1860) which states his parents' names and it states he was 25 then, but that makes it 1835 he was born. I have a copy of the book called 'early pioneers of mackay' which he is in and it states he was 'born about 1833'.

Thanks for all your replies!! I prob should have posted a bit more info. Edward died in 1920 in Queensland. I've visited his grave. It confused me also about Theodore Schroeter on his death cert, but that is his father-in-law. Don't know why they have his as his mother's name!! I've not found...

Hey Dave, I'm 90% sure he did in 1976. Just waiting on cert to confirm. But he defo didn't die in the war. I haven't got a clue what service he was in, but my great aunt might know. Her memory is a bit off though, but I'll try:) I know what you mean about loads of A Holdens. Such a popular...
