    Army Service Number confusion??

From my other thread on William Hewitt I have him joining the East Yorkshire Regiment somewhere between 1911 and 1914 and is given the service number of 3/6230 but according to the regimental history this number was issued between 1899 and 1901 so I'm confused as to what is happening here or am...

    William Hewitt MBE

William was Born 1892 in Hull and served in the East Yorkshire Regiment enlisting unknown but definitely prior to WW1 and being discharged in 1920. He further served during WW2 with the National Defence Company. He was gazetted 16th November 1943 as a 2nd Lieutenant with his entry saying "...

Family living at a specific address??

Is it possible to find out who was living at a specific address in 1900?? I'm trying to find out which of the Furniss family were living at 78 Church Street, St Helens, Lancashire in February 1900. I have a baptism record that has that address but I also have a conflicting address of 12...

    Perculier addition on Baptism Reg

Well, That's interesting. Was it a common thing as I've never come across this before and why would that happen?

    Perculier addition on Baptism Reg

I have a baptism reg sheet with the date of baptism given as 29th November 1874 but in the margin is written: "Privately received 22nd April 1877". I've never encountered this before and wondered why this had been added and the 3-year difference?

    3rd South Midlands Brigade RFA

I have managed to find his medal roll and he did in actual fact serve with the 3rd.... for about 10 months before being discharged as "medically unfit...." which is the same reason he was discharged during WW2.!!! Unfortunately, there's no service record available that I can find so perhaps...

    3rd South Midlands Brigade RFA

I've been looking into the history of the 3rd....., as much as you can, and also as he was a thespian what he was doing during the war and I can't see how he was in the 3rd... as during WW1 he was also appearing on the stage in various productions. So was he "fibbing" on his Oz service papers...

    3rd South Midlands Brigade RFA

Thanks Ellie7 but I don't think this is him as the surname is FURNESS and not FURNISS.

    3rd South Midlands Brigade RFA

I'm looking for details on William Henry Paul Furniss (usually known as Paul) who was born on 19th September 1890 in Southport and apparently served with the above during WW1. These details are taken from his Australian discharge papers under who he attempted to join during WW2. He emigrated and...

    Possible Divorce

Lawrence Furniss (B1882 D 1969) married Nanette Goode (B 1884 Tamworth Staffs D 1964 Los Angeles) in 1911 in London. He then went on to marry Amelia Behrens in 1924 again in Los Angeles. I'm presuming that they divorced in the USA so is there a record of this in the US?

Using an assumed surname on the census

So lets see if I've got this right. Child A becomes an orphan and is taken in by Person B to look after as there's no one else. Person C comes along and says, look I'll take her off your hand and bring her up as one of my own, taking my surname and she can learn the circus business and that was...

Using an assumed surname on the census

She was aged 10 years old in 1881 and eventually became part of the act. To my knowledge, and I may be wrong, she wasn't related to any of the troop although this is possible and I will look into this. My main question was is it legal for all the "family" to use what is in essence an assumed...

Using an assumed surname on the census

My great grandmother lost both her parents aged around 6/7 years old when they lived in Keighley. She, somehow, ends up in a circus family listed on the 1881 census as the daughter of, presumably, the head of the family even though there is no apparent link to this family. All the performers...
