    Wow that was good going all those kids… I thought the 80th regiment were only in Hong Kong from 1872-1876 My grandfather was born in Manchester in 1906, so thinking that maybe isn’t his mother?

    Thanks for all your replies. Have got Thomas seniors records and gone through them with a fine tooth comb. Could I have got the wrong parent for the younger Thomas? I could only find Thomas Senior, who I assumed was the father, as he was in the 80th and stationed in Hong Kong between 1872 and 1876

    Thanks Elaine. I've also searched and searched the Howarth/Holt/Shore families but found nothing either. Never thought about Irish name being a 'no no'! lol John Nolan put his adoptive father down on his marriage cert.
