    Boer War Information

Hi - no that isn't the right William Clark. He was definitely born in 1879 in Clifton Bedfordshire. He joined the army in about 1897 as an 18 year old and served at least 12 years, when he left the army in 1909 or thereabouts. He wasn't in WW1 as he died in 1912 in Bedfordshire. His wife was...

    HAACK and FLESSER

Very true Dave. The only thing i can think of is maybe Greve is the second wife, as that was quite often the case, but they always said the current wife was the mother, until you check the death records and Lange is the mother.....probably only way is to get his death certificate. cheers Justine

    HAACK and FLESSER

Hi. I have found a website about the Bethania Pioneers and it lists all the families that settled in Bethania. It has Jurgen being born in Kiel, Prussia in 1845. But it lists his mum as Magadelena Amalie Greve and his father as George Andreas Haack and they were both from Prussia. I think...

    HAACK and FLESSER

Hi. I don't actually have the birth or death certificate for Jurgen August Haack, but i believe he was born in Prussia as I have a book on the settlement of Bethania and it lists a lot of baptisms, and a couple of the children of Jurgen and Wilhelmine are listed as being born in Bethania. I...

1901 census for Grt Grandfather in Army

Hi Thanks for your help. He was actually based in South Africa from 1899-to about 1903 or thereabouts, so i know he definitely wasn't in England for the 1901 census. I was just wondering if they would assume that the records of his service in the army for that time would be where his...

    Help with Regiment/Unit

Hi. Thanks so much for all your help with this. Firstly, the 1901 census record from the Robinson family is incorrect. That William Clark was born in Derbyshire and I know that my great grandfather was born in Clifton Fields, Bedfordshire. I am still trying to find a 1901 census for him, and...

Thanks for the reply. I believe that he was in the army after 1901, or still in the army at that time. I believe he served in India and the Boer War. I don't believe i have seen the robinson tree on ancestry, and no that isn't me, but i will check it out. I will see if i can find out...

    Help with Regiment/Unit

Hi Dave I have received the marriage certificate and William's occupation at the time of his wedding on 8 January 1908 is as a groom, so i would assume that means he wasnt' in the army still. so that would mean he was discharged prior to January 1908??? Where to from here, any ideas? cheers...

Query with Great Grandfather's uniform and regiment?

Hi Thanks for your help. That does look like a similar badge to the one on the cap. And the uniform is almost identical so i would say it is definitely the right regiment. I will continue to follow up on stuff on the great war forum. Thanks again for all your help. cheers Justine

Hi Thanks for your replies. what does ASC stand for? Here is a close up of his cap, not sure if you can really make out the badge properly though. His name was Walter Richard Jeffrey and he was born in 1886 in Cambridgeshire, but would have been living in Baldock, Hertfordshire when he...
