Hi Charlie
I cannot believe that Samuel did not have children between Jane in 1853and Thomas in 1865
So far I have not found Samuel in 1861 but I think this could be his wife Mary with a child and her mother. It looks as if her mother has remarried, but this needs checking.

1861 Wales Census

Name: Walter Lloyd
Age: 42
Estimated birth year: abt 1819
Relation: Head
Spouse's name: Mary
Gender: Male
Where born: Monmouthshire, Wales (The actual place is unreadable, unless perhaps if you know welsh)
Civil Parish or Township: Monmouth
Ecclesiastical parish: Llandaff
Town: Monmouth
County/Island: Monmouthshire
Country: Wales

Registration district: Monmouth
Sub-registration district: Monmouth
ED, institution, or vessel: 3
Household schedule number: 156

Walter Lloyd 42 Shoemaker
Mary Lloyd 50
Sarah Harper 30 Step Dau
Mary Elliott 25 Step dau
Henry Elliott 4

There is also a Maud Elliott aged 5 in 1861 living with William Hall and his wife Emma Selina Clarke. I think I have already sent you this record earlier. She could possibly be Samuels child
I wonder where Samuel was. Wherever, he was last recorded in 1851 in the coal business, probably to do with his fathers business, but reappeared in 1871 as a train driver

I'll try to figure out all you've posted in a minute and piece it together, but this may interest you... someone from another site sent this to me, before you confirmed John Elliott as being related to me.

I didn't know about Jane... so wait, Samuel had more children than the ones in the 1871 and 1881 census?

In 1871 there is a family
Samuel Elliott 41 Swansea Railway engine driver
Mary 37 Llanelly
Thomas 6 Bettws, Carmarthen
Edward 6 Bettws
Mary N 4 Bettws
Robert 2 Bettws
John 1 Bettws
You will note Samuel was born Swansea, and was a train driver

In 1881 the family is thus
Samuel 50 Swansea, rlwy train driver
Mary 47 llanelly
Mary 14 Carmarthen
Robert 13 Carmarthen
John 11 Carmarthen
Samuel 8 Swansea
David 4 Abergavenny
William C 2 Abergavenny
Thomas and Edward are not on the census.
Is this to say thatSamuel had more children than just these?? He had a lot of children, if so. Right now, I'm still finding it incredibly difficult to understand... Maud Elliott was with William and Emily in the 1901 census, definitely, not the 1861 one... - that Maud is Thomas Elliott's daughter, not Samuels..

Confused to hell, if anyone has a huge brain, can they please help me put this together? :'(

It would seem that it's incredibly hard to prove that Samuel Elliott had any children between Jane in 1853, and Thomas/Edward in 1865 - as the person who Dave has got me in touch with who has done extensive research into the Elliott line, is also unable to find records of any other children.

The information I have also recently discovered that may be of interest, is the fact that Samuel Elliott snr. may have been the first person to drive a train up the Amman Valley, and also, on a point which mostly is good news for me, even during the 1800's, it would seem that the Elliott's had a knack of refusing to die, and living well into their 80's and 90's on many occasions.

I cannot thank everyone enough for the hard work they have put in, researching for me, especially davelambert271, and I cannot express how truely greatful I am.

Supposedly, there has been further research done on Richard's predecessors, but as of yet, it has been impossible to confirm... once I have this un-confirmed research in my hands, I will be sure to share it with you all, whether you want me to or not ;)

Charlie.
