Can't find George Henry Barclay in 1881 or earlier.... should be with wife Laura (nee Brewer). George born circa 1859 Balham, Laura 1862 Suffolk and should have 2 children with them Laura b c1878 & Henry George b c1880 both born Balham. Have them in 1891, 1901 & 1911. Thanks

No luck with the 1881 census for the family. As you havn't found George prior to 1891 this may be him.

The George Barclay in 1861 Scotland, dosnt look like your George, in 1871 this family are in Lancashire and in 1881 that George in a private in the army and his maritial status is unmarried.

Hi Trace,

I've just been having another look, still nothing on George. Using the soundex for Barclay there are various spellings. The 1881 census has a lot of mistakes, so you might not find them. I have one lot of mine that I cant find. I'm assuming that the witnesses to the marriage George is his father I cant even find him and is Eliza Georges mother? I found Laura in 1861 and she was under Brown in 1871 (transcription error).

Maybe something or not. Going back to George and Laura marriage certifictae. Georges father is given as George occ gardener. Have found a marriage for a Grace Clara Barclay to a Arthur Sadler. Graces father is given as George Barclay occ gardener dec'd. Grace was born abt 1873. On the 1901 census her place of birth is given as Balham.

I am researching my family tree and got as far back as Laura and George Barclay who were the parents of my great grandfather Arthur Barclay. As far as we were aware Arthur was an only child, so I was very pleased to stumble upon this this forum. If anyone wants any details relating to Arthurs side please let me know.
