I've been looking all over the place and cant get any further. I'm looking for details on my great grandfather. Martin Winn Stanley Thomas Brewer born 1897 (I think) in Penzance Cornwall. Looking for census details of 1901, so as to learn more about his parents, etc.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Hi ShaneB,

Could this be Martin in 1901? Just put in Martin with 2 yrs either side of 1897 county cornwall and this one came up. He's got quite a name there!

There is another Brewer family listed above these.

Its getting late will have another look tomorrow. There is a William Martin Brewer born abt 1847 who died in 1893, he may be Martins father so perhaps his widow remarried and thats why this Martin isnt showing (may be under stepfathers surname if thats the case) on the 1901 census.

PS Elizabeth wife of William Martin Brewer is on the 1901 census under Brewer but there is no Martin with her.

Thanks for all your effort. I'm going to check on those. I have found a birth record of him that lists him in June 1897 as Martin Winn S Brewer, but I dont know any further information as the sites I've been using (the free ones) only give me a download with his name on a list. I don't know how to get his parents' names.

Any suggestions? Or should I go for a subscription site? If so, any suggestions?

Hi ShaneB,

You can order his birth certificate which will give the parents names. Certificates can be ordered at the cost of £7.00 each from the 'Home Office Identity and Passport Service'. The information you will need is, the name of the person, district of registration, vol no. page no. year and quarter. This you will find on the birth register. See the link below.
