Hi

Is it possible to do a lookup for the following please, presume living in Berkshire although Thomas was born in Hampshire and Elizabeth in Berkshire {they were married in Chertsey, Surrey but William was born in Berkshire}:

Thomas Bye - head
Elizabeth Bye - wife
William John Bye - 7/8 born in Easthampstead, Berkshire

William married in St Thomas Devon in 1919
and his children were mainly born in Chertsey, Surrey.

Hope this information is enough????

Please advise if this is possible.

Thanks Julie

I have his occupation as a farm labourer on William's birth certificate in 1893 but I know that occupations and areas change...

According to the certificate they were living in Warfield then, but registration district is Easthampstead and sub district Bracknell.

Hi Julie

It's very possible that these could be mine... My Elizabeth (Maynard) was born in Wokingham, Berkshire.

I only have a note of three children - Arthur H 1880; Lucy 1881 and William 1893. I thought that the age gap was very large, so it looks like they were very busy inbetween the gap!!!!

Are those names showing on your record?

Hi,

Still havnt been able to find the family from the 1891 census in 1901. Seeing that William isnt showing on the 1901 census, I'm assuming that these are the family. What about the witnesses on Williams marriage certificate they may be relatives.

Hi Julie

I'm afraid I haven't got that certificate. I know they were married in December 1878 but that's all I'm afraid.

It's strange that they've disappeared from the census records in 1901 do you think!

Would it help if I did a bit more digging at this end first???

Hi,

A bit more digging about might throw something up. Still not found these in 1901 have even left the surname out. There could be a number of reasons why they not showing, name mistranscribed, missed off of the indexing, skipped the census.

1901

Civil parish White Waltham
RD Maidenhead
Sub RD Bray
Nethercliff Cottage

Emily Wal(t)kins head
Frederick son
Emily dau
plus 2 boarders and another servant
Emily Bye age 18 domestic servant born Easthampstead

Civil parish Binfield
RD Easthampstead
Sub RD Bracknell
Address the Woodlands

Elizabeth Bye age 19 occ parlourmaid born Warfield
Head of household is a Richard Jones occ barrister and his family, plus 6 boarders and another 4 servants.

Hi Julie

Thank you for looking these up. I'm hopeful that it'll be the family I need.

I'm afraid I'm a bit slow at returning posts. I didn't see your messages until I went through my email messages and clicked on the link!!!

I didn't realise that you'd attached the census details. Lots more family members then, if these are the right ones...

Many thanks for all of this.

I'll keep you informed when I've had a dig around.

I'm working on getting the marriage information, which might help.

Speak soon and thanks a lot.

Found them under Byl

1901

Civil parish Warfield
RD Easthampstead
Sub RD Bracknell

Thomas Bye head age 45 occ farm lab born Shafford Hants
Elizabeth wife age 40 born Wokingham
Arthur Henry son age 21 occ brick---- labourer born Bagshot Surrey
Mary Ann dau age 12 born Warfield
Minnie dau age 11 bor Warfield
Sellie (Lillie) dau age 9 born Warfield
William John son age 8 born Warfield
Edward thomas son age 4 born Binfield
Albert Edw son age 1 1/2 born Long Lane Bray

Theres had been a bit of a mess up with these by the census enumerator and someone else has submitted an alternative name of Byl? The childrens surnames had been transcribed as Henry, the transriber had mistaken Arthurs middle name Henry as the surname.

There was another 5 children on the census image but the enumator had crossed them off (probaly because they no longer lived at home), 4 of them are, Elizabeth, Emily, Lucy and fanny the other I cant make out.

Edited looks like Frederick, also there is 2 births looks like they maybe twins.

Birth

1886

Deaths

Agnes Bye
Jul/Aug/Sept 1/4

Hi Julie

I think you're right - that the crossed out names on the census record show children that they have had but that are no longer living with them and that is why they're crossed out.

I think that two of those are the girls that you found in 1901 at a different address:

Civil parish White Waltham
RD Maidenhead
Sub RD Bray
Nethercliff Cottage

Emily Wal(t)kins head
Frederick son
Emily dau
plus 2 boarders and another servant
Emily Bye age 18 domestic servant born Easthampstead

Civil parish Binfield
RD Easthampstead
Sub RD Bracknell
Address the Woodlands

Elizabeth Bye age 19 occ parlourmaid born Warfield
Head of household is a Richard Jones occ barrister and his family, plus 6 boarders and another 4 servants.

Their occupations are domestic servants...

I think one of the boys is actually a girl, Edith Florence(!) and as I've said before the boys have been dittoed as school girls(!)

I think this is probably the family - hopefully I'll be able to confirm it at some stage - but in the meantime, thank you once again for your help in finding these.

I've just realised that you've added some information, so I'm going to have a look at this now...

Thanks!!!!!

You're right again - what a muddle.

Can't imagine how you've managed to work it all out!!!!

Two more children(!)(!)(!)(!)(!)(!) Oh my goodness - that woman wanted a medal.................

What a shame that they died though. William named one of his children Rosemarie and William's son (my father-in-law) named one of his girls Rosemarie too. I don't think Agnes made it through though!!!!

I can't thank you enough - you're a gem.

I'll go away and take all this in now.

Hi

Just to let you know I've sent off for - and received several marriage certs, which has taken me back another step or two in the chain...

Couldn't have done it without your help though.
