About Thomas Victor Roberts
Born in Victoria but educated in New South Wales. On leaving school, he entered the Bank of Australasia, and remained in the bank for three years. He went to Tonga in 1899, at the request of the then Premier to take the position of Chief Clerk in the Customs.
In 1903 he was dismissed by the Tongan Government for political reasons, and in 1904 went to Fiji, and on the visit of the High Commissioner to Tonga in December of that year he was appointed Treasurer of Tonga, a position he held until February 1906. He was then appointed Auditor-General of the Tongan Government. He spoke the Tongan language fluently.
