SMH Sat 4 Jan 1919 - DEATH OF MR. W. H. RICKARD.

Mr. William Heath Rickard, who died at Bowral on Thursday, aged 87 years, was, for a number of years, interested In mining in New South Wales. He came to Australia in tho early 'Fifties, with his father, the late Captain Richard Rickard, as a member of a mining party, which went to Louisa Creek, now known as Hargraves, between Mudgee and Bathurst. Mr. W. H Rickard was associated with ' the successful co-operative copper mine at Kurrawang near Lake George, and subsequently he went into business at Bathurst. About six years ago ho removed to Bowral, where the funeral took place yesterday. Mr. Arthur Rlckard, of 84 Pitt Street, city, the Rev. R. H. Rlckard, of Granville, Mr. W. H. Rickard, of Newcastle, Mr. J. B. Rickard, late headmaster of Petersham Public School, and Mr Joseph Rickard, of Western Australia, are sons of the deceased, who is also survived by his wife, and one daughter, Mrs. Craig, of Bowral.

The funeral of Mr. S. H. Cottam, who died suddenly at his residence in Asher-street, Coogee, took place In the Waverley Cemetery. He was widely known in the hardware trade of Sydney. Commencing his business career in the early eighties with McBrair, Osborne, Ltd he was afterwards connected with John Keep and Co Ltd Briscoe and Co Ltd Merchants Ltd ESCA (Brisbane) and at the time of his death was a director of Brandts Ltd
During the war years Mr Cottam and Mrs Cottam were actively engaged in comforts fund work. The funeral was largely attended Among those present were -Messrs Max T Cottam (son) J Giles J Allsop and B A E Carloss (brother- in-law) Roy, Dudley and Ray Allsop O A and R S Cropley K and M King P and J Giles and M Brewster (nephews) Sir Arthur Rickard Messrs R H Rlckard A L, Rickard R C Brewster H L Bruce A Cropley R Cropley Messrs R Harris R A Miller B Miller P B Lawrence (directors of Brandts, Ltd. Etc etc..

COTTAM.-December 7. 1929, at his residence, 5 Asher-street. Coogee. Seth Hardman (Tibb) Cottam. dearly loved husband of Catherine Ann Cottam and fond father of Maxwell and Edna, aged 60 years.

Seth’s marriage – Australian Star Wed 24 Jan 1894
Marriages. COTTAM-GILES.— January 10, at St. Matthias' Church, Paddington, by the Rev. T. W. Gillett, B.A., Seth H. youngest son of Thomas Cottam, contractor, Redford, to Catherine Anne, fourth, daughter of John Giles, builder,Paddington.

The only death I can find for Catherine is 1945 but father wrong - not her as she is wife of a Rueben Cottam..

COTTAM.-November 14, 1937, at her residence, 7 Asher Street, Coogee, Eliza Martha, third daughter of the late Thomas and Eliza Cottam, and loved sister of Rebecca (Mrs. R. Allsop), Alice (Mrs.A. M. Carloss), Seth Cottam (deceased), Marianne Cropley (deceased), and John Cottam (deceased).

Thomas Cottam b 1836 Wigan Lancs to Seth Cottam 1793 – 1841 & 2nd wife Rebecca Hardman 1795 – 1839 - so your Seth could be Hardman after Mum...

Seth's 1st wife was Mary Heaton & they had 2 sons,

*Ralph 1818 Dalton Lancs – 13 Jan 1880 Adelong NSW (he married a Eliza E Cottam & they had a son Seth Edmund Lyon Cottam b UK & died 1882 Adelond NSW
*Seth Cotton b 17 Nov 1822 Manchester & died 21 Sept 1893 Waverley NSW

Now NSW BMD makes sence... so many Seth's:rolleyes:

Hardwicke is an error then.

I won't chase the family in England. It's another one way off a main line. Same old story - lots of stuff found on the branches and main lines have brick walls.
