FIRST ONE CANED
Carlingford Woman's Memories Golden jubilee celebrations at Carlingford District Rural School bring back a flood of memories to Mrs. Blanche Kells, of Carlingford. As little Blanche Mobbs, she was among the first to enter the then newly erected building in 1886. Mrs. Kells smiles a little as she recalls another memory. She is said to have been the first to be caned by the teacher, Mr. Gow, in the new school - for talking. Ten of her children have attended Carlingford School since those days, and she has grandchildren there now.

Thanks Val.

I've posted re the 'double wedding' before and have never solved the problem. NSW BMD have different dates and the newspaper notices have different churches. ???

Sarah died 1934 in Crookwell.

I can't see her in 1930 or 1933.
If I have the correct lady she is listed as M Stapleton [98] in the Goulburn Evening Penny Post, 6 Nov 1934. Been 'ill for some considerable time' - may have been in a local institution if unwell for some time..

Goulburn Evening Penny Post (NSW) - Wed 23 Nov 1932 p.3
PATIENT DIES
Under Anaesthetic
While undergoing an operation at the Goulburn District Hospital yesterday, George Smith, of Yarra, aged 60, collapsed and died.
Mr Smith, who was enjoying comparatively good health, went into hospital for the operation, which was a minor one, only yesterday morning. Following his collapse, artificial respiration was resorted to without avail.
The facts have been reported to the District Coroner, Mr. M. E. Soane, who will hold an inquiry in the near future.
