National Reg. rang a bell for me, so I dived into my box of bits and found my Fathers, Mothers and two of my siblings registration cards.

Does anyone know when the National Reg. cards was stopped, and the National Insurance Number took over. Or have I got my wires crossed.

My Mums card was issued in 1943, but my Dads was in 1951. So perhaps his was a replacement after being in the Army.

Some advice please. Without sounding stupid if i was to email for these what information would i have to put in the email. Obviously name, date of birth etc. Would i have to put the area i think they may have been in at the time?

The link that Gortonboy gave explains the registration card numbers, so if you had an identity no in WW2, you would still have the same number today as your NHS identity number.

So 1952 was the cut off point then Julie, and the NHS followed on from that. I wondered why my card wasn't in my box of bits.

Do you know if it will be possible to search anywhere with this to trace a persons movements during this period.

I would like to trace where my father lived at this time (he changed address frequently during his lifetime, he was an agricultural worker so exempt from military service which makes him harder to trace.

Looking inside all the cards I have, there are changes of address for my lot, and they are date stamped.
So I would guess it would be the the same for yours.

He died about 15 years ago, the reason I am interested is that whilst he was married to his first wife he also had several children with another lady, one of those I am in contact with thinks that there may be others we have yet to find, with the aid of the knowledge of where he was living we may resolve this query.

I am hoping the same thing, my grandmother had another baby and we havent been able to find anything about this child. Im hoping it might say where my grandmother lived around the time this baby would have been born and narrow things down a bit.

My original request was for the residents at a specific address from the 1939 National Registration.
I only specified the address nothing else.


Having won the right to access that information I shot off another request to see if I could gain information without an address.
I therefore asked for information from the NHS Central Register, http://tinyurl.com/yff6kbk not from the 1939 National Registration.
It was for a female so I gave married name, maiden name forename & date of birth.

This too was rewarded with a positive result.

I would use the address if know (more information will be returned).
If no address is known use the second method then re-apply using the address given.
