I'm looking for details on William Henry Paul Furniss (usually known as Paul) who was born on 19th September 1890 in Southport and apparently served with the above during WW1. These details are taken from his Australian discharge papers under who he attempted to join during WW2. He emigrated and took up citizenship.

Thanks Bootzy that is him and yes I've seen and read the "online" stuff on him, a very interesting character who would have been my great great uncle.

I've been looking into the history of the 3rd....., as much as you can, and also as he was a thespian what he was doing during the war and I can't see how he was in the 3rd... as during WW1 he was also appearing on the stage in various productions. So was he "fibbing" on his Oz service papers and if he was why pick on that unit??

I have managed to find his medal roll and he did in actual fact serve with the 3rd.... for about 10 months before being discharged as "medically unfit...." which is the same reason he was discharged during WW2.!!! Unfortunately, there's no service record available that I can find so perhaps he's amongst the "burnt records"

Although this is a long shot have you tried to get the service records from the place in Scotland? Sadly, it takes a lot of months to get them and the fee of £30 is non-refundable. There is one part that does WW I and the other does WW II. From memory the form to fill in is quite comprehensive.
