I have a copy of the 1901 death certificate and it says John married 3 times but only two are named and not in the right order.

1st ---
2nd Elizabeth ARROL
3rd Jane SNODGRASS

That can't be correct because:

No death can be found for Jean/Jane but we have her in 1861 with children, the youngest Ellen/Helen born 1857. Says she is married but John is not there. The image very clearly say Widower for the boarder aged 30. So if that is not John we have 2x bakers or it's an error and it should be married not widower.

Other issue is that the John we have in 1901 is 77 and the age in death certificate is clearly written as 68.

so if he is 30 in 1851 he should not be 30 in 1861 or 68 in 1901.

Seems son John didn't get the age right or the sequence of marriages.

We are left with three missing pieces:

John's 1st marriage
John in 1861 if that widower aged 30 is not him
Elizabeth ARROL in 1861

Marriage 15 Jul 1848 so is Andrew the only ? surviving ? child from John's 1st marriage? Daughter Isabella aged 2 with her mother's mother in 1851 and Andrew with his father's father in 1851. No baptism for Andrew on FS.

That's Isabella M.S. McDOUGAL but I can't find the marriage on FS. Not looked on SP yet.

As with the Malcolms' et al there will always be differences, some of those families are like dynasties and very difficult to document/follow

Not that close to a main line. I have Janet ARROL (Elizabeth's older sister) in my tree by marriage to ANGEL which is a direct line. Spent 12 credits and that's it for John.
