Hello,

I have 4 ANGEL siblings none of whom appear to have married who have gone their own ways and are probably listed as boarders or lodgers in 4 separate households anywhere in Scotland. As previously they may not be listed as ANGEL.

Thomas ANGEL b. abt 1844 Ashton, Lancashire Boilermaker last seen in 1861 in Old Kilpatrick, Dunbarton.

Stephen Gifford ANGEL b. 1855 Paisley, Renfrew Merchant's Clerk last seen in 1871 in Old Kilpatrick, Dunbarton.

Samuel Dow ANGEL b. 1860 Old Kilpatrick, Dunbarton occupation ? last seen in 1881 in Bonhill, Dunbarton

Octavia Clarendon ANGEL b. 1857 Tradeston, Lanark Domestic Servant last seen in 1881 in Glasgow, Lanark

Sometimes listed as Octavio a male

Please see if you have any luck finding any of them.

Addition: Thomas died in 1914 Kelvin, Lanark and Octavia in 1941 in Dunoon, Argyll. I can't find a death record for the other two.

Thanks.

Dave

Hi Dave

So far have managed to find only Stephen in 1881, no trace after that.

1881 Scotland census
Registration District: Maryhill
Civil Parish: Maryhill
County: Lanarkshire
Address: 8 Balmore St

Stephen Gifford ANGEL head b. abt. 1855 age 26 Clerk Paisly, Renfrewshire
Jeanie Speice ANGEL wife b. abt. 1849 age 32 Glasgow, Lanarkshir
Jeanie CALDER daughter b. abt. 1879 age 2 Mayhill, Lanarkshir

Perhaps the others are hiding out with the "SOCKS">:D

Hello crankypants,

Hahahahaha.

Thanks for looking. I'd say given the location Maryhill we have the parents now for these two:

Deaths
1886 ANGEL Thomas age 3 Maryhill, Lanark
1887 ANGEL John age 0 ? Govan, Lanark

I can't find Stephen's marriage nor the birth of Jeanie CALDER nor the births for those two children.

Regards,

Dave

Hello crankypants,

It should have been 5 odd ANGELS. I forgot about Mary Clark ANGEL b. 1855 Paisley. We have her in 1871, 1881 & 1891 as a lodger / boarder in three different addresses in Causeyside St in Paisley. She died in 1923:

"846 Mary Clark ANGEL Shawl Warehousewoman (Single) - 1923 September Tenth 2h 55m PM 15 Craw Road (No Rm: 7 Sir Michael Street [Pl]) Paisley - F - 68 years - Samuel Angel Locomotive Stoker (deceased) Janet Angel afterwards Craig M.S. Arrol (deceased) - Carcinoma of stomach as cert. by J M L Wright L.R.C.P.- Daniel Craig Half-Brother Locher Cottage Bridge-of-Weir - 1923 September 10th at Paisley Wm L Campbell [Registrar]"

Also, since that tells us Daniel CRAIG was still alive please see if you can find him in 1901. We have him as a boarder in Neilson St in Paisley in 1891.

Thanks.

Dave

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much. That would be Sir Michael St. I can't find out what used to be at 7 Sir Michael St. I wonder if it was a hospital or clinic?? But 15 Craw Road is now used as a building for Scottish Ambulance Service.

Regards,

Dave

Hello crankypants,

1871
Civil parish Old Kilpatrick
Address Forsky House
Thomas Angel head age 43 occ bondman (borge) born England ?
Jennie wife age 38 born Anton Dumbartonshire ? Milton ?
Samuel D son age 10 born Bouling Dumbartonshire ? Bowling
Agnes C step daughter age 6 born Glasgow
Stephen son age 16 occ a merchants clerk born England
Samuel was born in Bowling a village in Old Kilpatrick parish. I can't find an 'Anton' so I was wondering if it could be Milton a village in the same parish.

Dave

Hi Dave

Daniel CRAIG is not living in Neilson Street in 1901.

The closest I could find is this, probably questionable.

Civil Parish: Paisley
County: Renfrewshire
Address: 16 Ferguslie

Daniel CRAIG b. abt. 1865 age 36 Lodger Fire Clay Lab Largs, Ayrshire

Lodger with the McGuiness family

Hello crankypants,

Thanks for looking. The age is right for Daniel but he has gone from Shawl Weaver to a Fire Clay Lab in Largs. Unlikely.

Dave

Hello crankypants,

Thanks for looking further. I would imagine if he didn't start out as a clerk but worked in the mills he probably was not educated enough to become a clerk later in life ?? Hard to say. One thing to check is how many there are born roughly the right time.

Born in Renfrew 1865 +/- 5 years only TWO in IGI. But if you look at the marriages there are a lot more with marriages in Paisley in 1864 and 1875 but not after that. The 1875 one to an Elizabeth would rule out our Daniel.

Daniel was living in Bridge of Weir in 1923, but that's a long time after 1901 census when he was probably still working in Paisley.

Dave

Hi Dave

I doubt Daniel CRAIG in 1901 would have left the region so I searched all in Renfrewshire, and came up with nothing remotely close to your D.C.
He may of been transcribed with the family surname he was boarding/lodging with, though I did search with christian, birthyear and place only and still no luck. The two I have already given are the closest match.
With the wacky transcriptions I have come across of late he's probably listed as SMITH???

Hello crankypants,

Stephen Gifford married Jeanie Spence CALDER in 1878 in Maryhill, Lanark. I can't find a death for either of them on SP. Did they leave Scotland? A son Arthur was born on 2 Jul 1888 in Bothwell, Lanark (privately submitted IGI entry with his death in 1949 in Argentina !!)

Samuel Dow married Agnes unknown in 1888 in Blythswood, Lanark. There is a death for an Agnes ANGEL age 50 in 1904 in Kelvin, Lanark. I can't find a death for Samuel on SP. I can't see the marriage or any children born to them in IGI.

Dave

Hi Dave

With the extra information I thought this may help find them, but again I'm stuck in finding any of them in 1891/1901. Also checked for Arthur under Udding(s)ton.
It's possible though Stephen Angel, Jeanie and son Arthur may of left Scotland, as Arthur married in 1914 Argentina.

As for Samuel Dow ANGEL did he take the same path.

cheers

Hello crankypants,

Thanks for looking. I doubt Samuel went to Argentina. Stephen & Jeanie may have gone with son Arthur.

Looks like we have come to the end.

Regards,

Dave
