Sarah Webb Castle Donington Leicester b c1823
1851 census states unmarried with 2 chilrdren (Castle Donnington - High St)
1861?
1871 census states unmarried (RG10 3550 5 3 castle Donington )
1 Feb 1879 died aged 56yrs St: Edward King & Martyr. Castle Donington
Occupation Spinner and then Cheviner
1843-1858 She had 6 children Ann, John, William, Sarah, Ellen and Kate
The first child Ann has a middle name of ‘Morris’...maybe that is the name of the father, it is the only clue I have “1Q 1844 WEBB Ann Morris Shardlow 19 377”

A shot in the dark....is there a ? Morris in Castle Donington living near and where is she in 1861?:(

Hi Dave

There seems to be two Sarah Webb’s in Castle Donington
One bap 17 Jan 1827 father Thomas and Martha Webb, who I think this one would be and another bap 3 Sep 1820 mother Sarah Webb.

I could only find this one who is a housekeeper, but ‘my’ Sarah Webb was a Cheviner and with 6 children (Ann, John, William, Sarah, Ellen and Kate). I always seem to have 'disappearing ancestors' on the 1861:confused:

Hi FL,

William Marcer (assuming its the one on the marriage index) is with wife Maria in 1861 Castle Donnington. James Adkin in 1871 is with wife Sarah A born abt 1838 Castle Donnington and daughter Mary age 5. Head of house is Sarahs father James Webb. James and Sarah Adkin are on the 1861 census with daughter Jane Ann.

Hi Julie

I don't think it is my Sarah, as this is her on the 1871, Annie her elder daughter had the middle name of 'Morris' ( although not used in the census)

RG10 3550 5 3 - Civil Parish Castle Donnington - High St

Sarah Webb Unmar Head b 1823 Castle Donnington - Spinster
Annie Compton Daugh b 1844 Castle Donnington
Sarah Webb Daugh b 1851 As above - Mill hand
Kate Webb Daugh b 1855 As above - looks like spinster??
Ellen Webb Daugh b 1858 As above - Mill hand
Elizabeth Webb G Daugh b 1868 As above
George W Compton G Son b 1868 As above
John H Compton Son b 1870 Wales Cardiff

and in 1851 - Castle Donnington - High St

Sarah Webb Unmar Head b 1822 C Donnington occ cheviner
Ann Webb Daug b 1844 C Donnington
Sarah Webb Daug b 1850 C Donnington

So my guess is that this is another Sarah Webb in Castle Donington, as she is too young to be Sarah Webb( mum) and too old to be sarah Webb ( child)

I am now thinking that she is the one bap 3 Sep 1820 with just the mother's mentioned as ( another) Sarah Webb, possibly illegitimate and then went on to have her 6 children illegitimately as well...although where you hide 6 children and herself in 1861 I don't know.

However thankyou, more information positive or not is better than no information

Hi
It would appear that all the children on the 1871 census are on BMD as being born at Shardlow Derbyshire. This is only a smidgin from Castle Donnington which is in Leicestershire. Doesn't help finding them....

Julie: Yes, thanks it eliminates 'that' Sarah Webb by knowing more information about her.

Dave:Castle Donington(Leic) is on the border of Leicestershire/Derbyshire and the civil registration is Shardlow(Derbyshire), although from the census they lived in CD.

I think this is her on the 1841 census

Ann Tomlinson b 1791 - Lace Runner
George Charlesworth b 1791 - Waterman
Sarah Webb b 1821 - Chevener

and I have looked on the 'Shardlow' Bastardy papers although the same surname, too early for the 'female born' to be Sarah

Catherine WEBB als Catura WEBB single, female born 1799. Robert LAMBERT Manchester Lancs 1802

It might be that she is on a mssing census return. I have a family in 1861 who I cant find either. :) I did look on another site just in case but that came up with nil results.

Thanks Julie

I have several families in different parts of the country who I can't find on the 1861 census, so it makes me wonder how complete it really was.
