A Convict???

I havent had to look for convicts until now so i need some help please....
I have a Hubert Richard Davis [commonly known as Richard] who was sent to Australia as a convict from Ireland sometime in 1800's. Can anyone find any info on him for me please? Besides finding out when he come to Australia im interested to know what he did to be sent here. I dont even know where to start to look:redf)

Couldnt find him on here Gibbo but a good site to gander at....one lady got 7 years for stealing a hankerchief!!.....will try to find your man he should be someware.

I had a quick look at the link. It is interesting reading and did you notice that most of the sentences are for 7 years. I wonder why 7? So long for what would be a minor affence these days.

Think like today certain crimes had a standard set amount of years...if you stole thats what you got...it seems you were better off going the whole hogg and stealing properly,as even stealing a teaspoon got you 7 years.....hard times,hard crimes that built a naition Gibbo.

A 'Richard DAVIS' arrived on the following vessels:

Fame 1817 from Spithead via Ireland
Tottenham 1818 from Spithead (no mention of Ireland)
Ferguson 1829 from Dublin 16 Nov 1828
Waterloo 1836 ? can't find origin yet

At this stage it appears the one from Dublin could be him. It fits with the little info my aunt had. Would you know if there anywhere i can get a record from Ireland for the court case?
