Hi i have recently got a copy of my mothers birth certificate and now i would like to find out about my grandparents. I know a bit about my grandfather but not my grandmother. IE i dont know what year they were born, i have found there marriage details so have ordered a marriage certificate but i guess that wont give their ages? I also guess they were born in london as they married in london and lived in Wembley in the 30's, cant be certain.

If any one can help with some info on: William George Sawyer & Margaret Evangeline Sawyer (maiden name Walsh) I know there marriage was registered in 1928 in the 3rd quarter in Willesden. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.:)

When the Marriage certificate arrives it will show the ages of both bride and Groom. These ages are only as honest as the people giving the information, but they shouldn't be to far from being correct. (My Grandma added 2 years to her age to make her 21) From this you should be able to find both birth certificates via the the free site that has indexed most (but not all Birth marriages and deaths up to about the mid 1920's) www.freebmd.rootsweb

Nothing stopping you now by trying to eliminate potential candidates. Just work around that both Grandparents were aged roughly about 21 at the time of marriage. Bear in mind though If Margaret had been married before and a widow, the name given on the marriage certificate with your grand father would not be her maiden name. Chances are though its more than likely her first marriage.

Then you can order the certificates to go back another generation. Then the use of the Censuses should take you backwards ;)
