Hi everyone, I'm Sharon or Angelwispa and I've been researching my family tree on and off for a couple of years. I've been trying to research (not very successfully) my maiden name of JEFFERISS. I seem to get so far and then zilch! :D All researching tips very gratefully received! I'm also researching FISHER, SMITH, HOPSON, RICE, CHIVERS and PALMER oh - and GEE. I only know a little about some of them but I'm mainly interested in JEFFERISS at the moment. I look forward to having some interesting chats with you. Good luck all in your quests!
kind regards Sharon

Hi Sharon

welcome . You will enjoy this site. There are many members to help in your searches.

You will see that I am a Jefferiss, I married one that came from a long line of doctors. I am back to a Robert Reuben Jefferiss that lived in Scotland but came from somewhere in England.
Let me know more information and we will see if we can join up somewhere
In the past there were some rellies in Somerset but I have details but they do not seem to go anywhere with me.

Hi everyone.

My name is Marie and a live in Chesterfield, I've been tracing my family tree for the last year and half and I wouldn't call myself a pro at all cos I'm always getting stuck. LOL

My family names are Cooke and Wootton,Wilson,Moseley,Cronan and Frejek (Polish) at the moment I'm having great difficulty in finding my Great Grandad x 2 Oswald Wilson's death certificate. Oswald was born in 1887 in Lincoln and married to Mary Cronan in Chesterfield they had six children. I don't know if he died young in the first world war but I can't find him at all. My second person I can't find on the death certificate is Emily Deering born in Yorkshire in either 1896 or 1897 married to a Richard Arthur Cooke in huddersfield in 1915, I was told she died young by the family but for some reason I think she divorced Richard Cooke and remarried I know she must of stopped in huddersfield because my great grandad came to chesterfield around 1930 with out Emily but I don't know where to look for her death or divorce records because I think I've checked everything?

Also I would like to know if you can look at the 1911 census without putting a road or street name in as I'm finding it difficult to trace family cos I don't know this information?

If anyone can help that would be great as I'm fed up hitting a brickwall and would like to get past the 18th century.

Cheers Marie

Hello Nainmaddie

It's been such a long time since I first joined, I haven't been on the board because of prolonged illness, but I'm back now and grateful for any tips/help that you can pass on.

I originate from London and have some information regarding my immediate ancestors who lived in the London/Poplar area and I can post this on here if it's appropriate to do so. I'm not sure of the procedures of posting info on the board. But anyway I can give some names and rough dates for the time being.

Starting with me: Sharon M Jefferiss, I have 3 siblings and we were all born in London between 1959 - 1971.

My father was John Jefferiss 1937-2001
Grandfather John Joseph Jefferiss D.O.B around 1910 - 2000
Gt Grandfather Frederick Jefferiss D.O.B unknown

I have the names of G.Fathers siblings and some of their living families as well as some dates etc.

I know that my father, G.Father and Gt.G.Father all worked in the London Docks and lived around the Poplar area.

I have also been told that there is a Scotish connection, but have not managed to find the link yet. I know some of the details of the Robert R. Jefferiss that you have referred to, but I'm not sure where and if he fit's in with my family tree.

I have found some details today on the BMD site referring to a Robert Reuben Jefferiss aged 57 who is on the HENDON district vol of 3a page 83 entered on the Jun 1894 list. But I've not gone any further with this at the moment.

I know that a lot of the research that I've already come up with is regarding doctors as a family profession, but I'm not sure if this line is anything to do with me.

I do know that some of the living people that I've found via the internet are connected with me and I did receive some limited information from them.

I'd be very grateful for any help in tracing the 'missing link' between the London and Scottish connections or any help/tips you may be able to pass on.

kind regards, Angelwispa (Sharon)

Dear Sharon
I don't have access to the 1911 census but on the official site there was only one Frederick Jefferiss in London. It says he was 31, ie born about 1880. He was living in Hampstead. London. Perhaps this would be a good place to start. There are 3 possible Fredericks about this time on free bmd but one has the middle name Thomas [b.1876 Fulham] & one the middle name George [1883 Mile End]. The just Frederick was born 1879 in Kensington. If you have access to Ancestry UK there are several possibilities in the public family trees- although take things with a healthy dose of scepticism there. It will help if you know who Frederick married.

Hello Ros, thank you for your reply. I've not been on the board for a long while due to extended illness, but I've recently started to explore my family tree again, and your reply is a timely reminder. Thank you for taking the time to reply, and I look forward to dropping back in on this forum from time to time:)

I've managed to find my Gt. Grandfathers full name and who he was married to and also unearthed some other information which may be useful. At the moment it's a case of getting some certificates to gain more information, but alas funds are in short supply at the moment, so I've ground to a full stop again for a little while:)

I'm looking forward getting back onto the board and joining in discussions etc. once again, thank you. Sharon x

Hi, Sharon

My Chivers are from Aaron & Bety [Elizabeth] who had their children christened in Holcombe from 156 onwards. I do not where they married. We are descended from their son Joseph who married Leah West in Holcombe in 1788 and from their daughter Martha who married William Horler at holcombe, 1811, and then moved to Charlton near Kilmersdon. Don't know if that will connect with your Chivers at all. No-one seems to know where Aaron came from. Hope you enjoy getting back into your research.
