This is about the Sheffield Flood one of the worst disasters in Britain in which in 1864 a dam broke and swept along the Loxley Valley and killing over 250 people in a few minutes. This site is about the claims put in by the survivors for damaged or lost possessions and loss of wages. It gives great insight into the type of possessions different workers owned and the wages they received in 1864 which will be similar in other cities such as Birmingham at the time. If you have ancestors in the Sheffield area you may find some of your with a claim. I found about 8 claimants from my family.
