Thanks Woody.

It's probably Lowr with the r raised, whatever the correct term is. :)

You are probably right about it being Shull.. not Sk... because the 'k' is usually written even if not the first letter as 'K' I've noticed a lot.

Agnes Wright
birth: 14 September 1816
christening: 15 September 1816 Torthorwald, Dumfries

Could it be different Agnes Malcolms and the Largs birth/marriage in hometown was correct after all?
Ignore that - I forgot the death cert info/confirmation.

I have a death cert where an informant has given assumed parents due to a generation gap and been proved wrong so yes, I agree that's a possibility as you thought re informant's info

There is a Peter after all and a Betty so perhaps the remaining puzzle is Shullow/Celant

Not many Wright baptisms in Torthorwald.

However no female Wright baptisms in Dumfries 1811 - 1820 with father = Peter

The only Peter Wright marriage I can find in Dumfries 1795 - 1825:

Peter Wright
marriage: 1817 Applegarth, Dumfries
spouse: Betty Smith
