I am looking into my Grand father history in the navy i know he joined up in the early 1940s worked as a stoker before moving over to MTBs but i am drawing a blank and would love to find where he served and on what ships but i really dont know where to start ... he was born in 1927 in Nottingham

Have a look through this web site.http://www.mariners-l.co.uk/UKRNPersonnel.html

For Naval service after 1938, please contact:
Data Protection Cell (Navy), Victory View, Building 1/152, HM Naval Base, Portsmouth, PO1 3PX.

To obtain his records, you need his birth details.
There is also a fee for obtaining his service records. I think its about £40.

There is no guarantee what is in them, if they are found.
