The name appears in records as WICKENS and WICKINGS. From IGI his father's name is John William and his mother's Elizabeth Jane ?

Probable:
Marriages Sep 1864
Vickers Elizabeth Jane Rotherhithe 1d 947
Wickens John William Rotherhithe 1d 947

John Francis Robert c. 10 Sep 1865 St Paul, Deptford, Kent

I wonder why John William is not in the census and I wonder when and where he died.

AUSTRALIAN Electoral Rolls - 1901-1936

Name: Albert George WICKENS
Gender: Male
Electoral Year: 1936
State: New South Wales
District: Reid
Subdistrict: Bankstown North
Albert George WICKENS, Stacey St, BANKSTOWN Engineer
Elizabeth Maude WICKENS, Stacey St, BANKSTOWN Home duties

So Albert died after 1936 but I can't find a death record.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dave

Hello juliejtp,

Thanks for looking. Albert Frederick George died in 1936 or later because he apears in the Electoral Roll for 1936. I suspect he went back to England.

I can't find anything apart from that marriage for his father John William.

Yes, with names like Albert Frederick George and Albert Joseph George I would say Frederick Albert J would fit in somewhere.

Regards,

Dave

Hello juliejtp,

Thanks.

I think I have the correct marriage so I looked for an Elizabeth Jane VICKERS b. abt 1835-1840 and can't find a match. The 1881 census says she was born in Bristol, Somerset which does not add up to me. Please see if your version of the 1871 census says where she was born and also the relationship of Annie WICKENS. She was born before that 1864 marriage so I wonder if she is a sister of John William. He remains a mystery. Please see if you can find him in 1861 and 1851. Thanks.

I have found this death but it may not be the right one:

Deaths Mar 1895
Wickens Elizabeth Jane 60 Portsea 2b 422

The age in census indicate a birth date closer to 1840 (and so would the marriage date).

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave,

In 1861 Elizabeth gives her POB Bristol born abt 1842, she is a house servant to a family called Clendon in Deptford. In 1871 Elizabeths POB Bristol born abt 1843, Annies relationship is down as sister.

Hello juliejtp,

Thanks for looking. I had no evidence and the failure to find him casts doubt on that theory. I've been searching all the on-line cemetery sites in Australia except for one, Interment.net which has been off line for over a week, and have not found a burial yet.

As a general question, is there any way to find deaths in England after 1936? That's about the last date I've seen in FreeBMD.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Not had any luck tracing Elizabeth Jane Vickers birth. Her birth could have been missed off the GRO index or her mother remarried and she took her stepfathers name, though only a suggestion. Are you going to get the marriage certificate? Your lot are giving you the run around.

Hello juliejtp,

Thanks for looking. Yes, I know, they are hard to trace and scattered everywhere in England, Scotland and Ireland. I have a lot more work to do on my tree before I can finally decide what certificates to get.

Regards,

Dave

I have information about this family. I believe Albert died in Australia and left relatives behind him. I can probably find out date of death and other information.

There was a son Edward James Wickens born 1873. There was also a son Wilfrid Joseph Wickens born 1876 born between Albert Frederick George and Florance Mary Wickens. There was also another daughter following Florance Wickens. Maud Louise Wickens born 1881. Relatives of Maud also live in Australia.

Are there any relatives of the Wickens family posting on the thread. I would like to converse privately, if that is allowed, about this family. I am a newbie and not sure what the rules are.

Hi Matthew as I suggested on your other post. You both have made more than 3 posts so you can send and receive Private Messages. Just click on Rubys name and a box appears with several options. Click on send Ruby a PM and off you go. You can safely give delicate info this way as only you two will see what is posted. As I said Ruby has not posted on this thread since 2009.
Best of luck
