Hello Barbara,

Thanks. That's the same family but is it the Alexander I was looking for?

The one I was chasing was born 18 Jun 1813 at Abercorn.

He may have died before 1841.

Regards,

Dave

Are you not looking in the wrong area then? More midlothian or popped over the firth to Fife? Do you have anything else on him, ie do you know his wife?

There are several others, might be able to pin him down for you.

Hello Barbara,

I was looking W Lothian because the one in my tree was born Abercorn. The family lived in the hamlet of Society.

Midlothian and Fife are possible. A common name so he may not have died before 1841.

There is a brother Andrew b. 4 Aug 1815 Abercorn I also have not been able to find in 1841 or later.

This is the family:

1841
Piece: SCT1841/661 Place: Abercorn -West Lothian Enumeration District: 1
Civil Parish: Abercorn Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island:

ANDERSON Alexander M 50 Sexton Outside Census County
ANDERSON Janet F 40 Outside Census County
ANDERSON Eliza F 20 Milliner West Lothian
ANDERSON James M 15 Fisher West Lothian
ANDERSON Janet F 15 West Lothian
ANDERSON Ann F 10 West Lothian

In later census that one is born in Perth, Tulliallan but lived in Abercorn. I can send you later census if you think he is a possible. He moved to Stirlingshire.

Hello Barbara,

Thanks for looking.

Another researcher of this family has copies of almost all the marriage and death certificates as well as all the census listings, but nothing for either Alexander or Andrew. I would say from searching just done it is likely both died before 1841.

The family lived in the hamlet of Society just along the road to the east of Hopetoun House on the coast. Census usually have born Abercorn but sometimes Society.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Barbara,

This is the one in my tree:

Andrew ANDERSON b. 4 Aug 1815 Abercorn, West Lothian, Scotland
- parents Alexander ANDERSON & Jannet DASKINE

I can find no birth in W Lothian in SP to fit the one in the census below. So no birth or baptism registered or pob in census is wrong or age is way out. ???

Andrew Anderson
Scotland, Marriages, 1561-1910
marriage: 07 Feb 1843 Campsie,Stirling,Scotland
spouse: Marjory Dunn
Andrew Anderson
Scotland, Marriages, 1561-1910
marriage: 07 Feb 1843 Glasgow,Lanark,Scotland
spouse: Marjory Dunn

1851
Piece: SCT1851/475 Place: Campsie -Stirlingshire Enumeration District: 5a
Civil Parish: Campsie Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: Campsie
Folio: 0 Page: 3 Schedule: 178
Address: -
Surname First name(s) Rel Status *** Age Occupation Where Born Remarks
ANDERSON Andrew Head M M 41 Slater Emp 1man-House Prop West Lothian - Bathgate
ANDERSON Marjory Wife M F 42 Stirlingshire - Drymen
DUNN Mary Niece U F 16 Dunbartonshire - Duntocher

That's the only other Andrew listed as born W Lothian around 1815 that I can find in 1841 or 1851.

Up to 1851 these are the only marriages in W Lothian. Both could have been born outside Linlithgow. Possibly the bride's parish anyway.

spouse: Janet Meikle

Andrew Anderson
