Hello,

Alexander FLEMING b. abt 1836 Scotland

- father = ? mother = Jane Gilmni? [yes, well that's how I read it off the parish register]

Married in NSW 23 Nov 1868 - age 32

- father's name not in the register but occupation listed as farmer. The register is an odd one. It has no column for the father and a column for mother's maiden name.

This does not help:

Death 5054/1875 FLEMING ALEXANDER AGE 38 YEARS DIED MOSS VALE BERRIMA

Arrived before 23 Nov 1868 ???

I've looked at 1841 and 1851 census records and at FLEMING marriages to a Jane/Jean/Janet and I can see nothing that seems to fit.

Not this family:

FLEMING Alexander 2 Exodus 1855 Sydney and/or Newcastle and family Reel 2137, [4/4792]; Reel 2469, [4/4948]
FLEMING James 7 Exodus 1855 Sydney and/or Newcastle and family Reel 2137, [4/4792]; Reel 2469, [4/4948]
FLEMING Janet 26 Exodus 1855 Sydney and/or Newcastle and family Reel 2137, [4/4792]; Reel 2469, [4/4948]
FLEMING John 29 Exodus 1855 Sydney and/or Newcastle and family Reel 2137, [4/4792]; Reel 2469, [4/4948]
FLEMING John 4 Exodus 1855 Sydney and/or Newcastle and family Reel 2137, [4/4792]; Reel 2469, [4/4948]

Regards,

Dave

Hello trace,

Thanks for looking.

For some reason I ruled that 1841 one out after I found it. Crazy parish register that does not list the father. I'll have to have another attempt to read that name in the register.

So far I can't find another Alexander in shipping records. I found no marriage in FS that seemed to fit. I'll have a look in SP now.

Regards,

Dave

I found this in the SA site

FLEMING Alexander arrived in SA 1848-12-05 aboard Thomas Lowry from London via Plymouth 08-31 [Source:6]
http://www.familyhistorysa.info/shipping/passengerlists.html

He would have only been about 12 then, he is not noted as child and i cant find a jolly passenger list for that ship to check  Hate SA for searching for things

I just checked Trove out and he is named as Alex in the papers. He seems to be the only Fleming on board, well as far as the papers go he is the only Fleming noted in them. No age given.

Thanks gibbo. ;)

A bit young to be alone. He married on the southern highlands of NSW.

I'll have another go at reading the name on the marriage register.

I've had another look at the marriage register and the name could be Jane Gilmore.

I've check for Jane/Jean/Janet GILMORE to FLEMING marriage 1825 - 1840 and none.

I've checked for a birth/baptism for an Alex/Alexander/Alexr FLEMING with mother = GILMORE 1830 - 1840 and none.
