Thank you both for a very speedy reply. I would have to check the details from Scotland and/or see an image of the headstone, but it could very well be him. The time frame fits.
He was killed while quelling a riot and was an Adjutant in the Militia at the time.
However, trying to nail this particular fella down has been rather difficult.

The Alexander I seek would have born C:1790. I have a entry in the chelsea burial register for an Alexander Grant, buried May 13 1803. I would like to think that this was him but if it is, What other info can I get from this entry?

He was killed while quelling a riot in London, (according to family lore, lore which until now has been extremely accurate), so I have no cause to think otherwise.

Thank you for your efforts though, it is appreciated as elimination of others is another way of finding the correct person.

I have checked with "findagrave" which also has this info. After reading the transcription, I can safely discount this particular Alexander Grant as well.
I was worth checking.
Inscription reads
"In memory of Alexander Grant, late farmer in the Carse of Delnies, who died 10th May 1834, aged 41 years."

Wrong occupation, although the spouse's first name is correct.
He was married to a Margaret Stuart (Stewart?).

However, I will keep this in mind and check this person against other 'evidence', eg. census. BDM's etc

Thank you for the heads up regarding the details from FMP

So many possibilities.

As I said, he is one of my brick walls as it is quite difficult to locate any evidence of his existence.

As an officer in the Militia, and being killed while on duty, you would think that there would be plenty of Records about this.

Thank you everyone for all the avenues to pursue.

Dave
