Trying to find Annie's maiden name.

There may or may not be a connection between the families.

Hello Julie,

Sorry, but I have no idea. Don't even know if he was the only one of 9 children who never made it to Australia - he may have followed his father into coal mining in Ireland - or if he did end up here.

I don't even have confirmation of his birth date yet that came to me via family history.

The only Alexander I have in Australia is the grandson Alexander William born 23 Aug 1902 in Brisbane.

Regards,

Dave

NSW Marriage 8121/1902 MCLUCKIE ALEXANDER - HAWTHORNE MARGARET MC L - SYDNEY

By the number in the index there must be more than two different McLUCKIE families in Australia.

No sign of Alexander b. 1869 in the 1901 or 1911 Irish census.

Just wondering why William Kerr Mcluckie and Alice crossing from Canda to the US in 1938 could be buisness, it dose'nt say that they are visiting.
Thanks Julie.

That's news to me. Perhaps business since he was a merchant.

1936 QLD Electoral Roll - Lilley - Toombul
McLUCKIE William Kerr, 24 Adelaide st., Clayfield, merchant
McLUCKIE Alice Kitty Cairns, 24 Adelaide st., Clayfield, home duties

Hello Julie,

Thanks.

McLUCKIE A (Mr) 18 Dorunda 5 May 1887 IMM/122 97 Z1963 M1702, M1703

McLUCKIE Richard 23 Dorunda 5 May 1887 IMM/122 97 Z1963 M1702, M1703

Age fits but perhaps an error with Richard. I'll view the films next time I'm at the library. However, those records are very poor quality and difficult to read.

If they turn out to be the right ones then we are left with two arrivals still to find:

Elizabeth (Bessie) b. 1865
Jane/Janie/Jeanie b. 1867

Regards,

Dave

This is curious.

In Normanton John [LEDLIE] was employed by Burns, Philip & Co. In 1891 after a short term at the company’s branches in Thursday Island and Port Moresby, New Guinea he moved to Herberton where he joined the staff of Jack & Newell (established 1882). Also on the staff there were sisters Annie (from an Irish record “Go Lucky”) and Elizabeth Kerr (Bessie) McLuckie, both milliners.
We have Annie:

McLuckie Annie 17 13 Oct 1888 'Jumna' IMM/123 Z1964, M1703/1704

So if the sisters were working in the same town in the same office I presume they arrived in N Qld. together. ???
