Hello Barbara,

Thank you very much. That's one of four found. We had looked previously for brothers David and William and they have not been found after 1861.

The 'Back O'dykes' rings a bell too. Be easier if my tree had 400 and not 5000 in it. :)

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave

I was just trying to piece the origins of this family together when I came across this on FS (including Cecilia's maiden name):
name: Adam Keltie
gender: Male
baptism/christening date: 14 May 1836
baptism/christening place: TORRYBURN,FIFE,SCOTLAND
birth date: 04 Dec 1835
father's name: James Keltie
mother's name: Cecilia Masterton
indexing project (batch) number: C11458-7
system origin: Scotland-ODM
source film number: 1040387
I couldn't see him in 1841 with his family, though there is an anomaly after James' entry. He does appear in 1851, however:

***

Name: Adam Kelie
Age: 13
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1838
Relationship: Son
Father's Name: James Kelie
Mother's Name: Cecilia Kelie
Gender: Male
Where born: Torryburn, fifesh
Parish Number: 465
Civil parish: Alloa
Town: Gaberston
County: Clackmannanshire
Address: Gaberston
ED: 2
Page: 54 (click to see others on page)
Household schedule number: 229
Line: 4
Roll: CSSCT1851_96

Unlikely there would be 2 Adam's, so I suspect he died between 1851 and 1857. Indeed one tree has him dying Mar 1857, one month after father James, Feb 1857 of Typhus fever.

***

Tribal Pages:
Name: David Keltie
Birth: January 30 1845
Death: February 06 1880 aboard vessel Terentia, Scotland
Father: James KELTIE
Mother: Cecil(ia) MASTERTON

Hello Geoff,

Thank you very much.

I was just trying to piece the origins of this family together...
It only took me 5 years.

1841
Piece: SCT1841/458 Place: Torryburn -Fife Enumeration District: 1
Civil Parish: Torryburn Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: -
Folio: 1 Page: 16
Address: Low Street
Surname First name(s) *** Age Occupation Where Born Remarks
MASTERTON Adam M 65 Publican Outside Census County (1841)
MASTERTON Cecilia F 65 Fife
MASTERTON Marion F 25 Fife
KELTY Adam M 5 Fife

1851
Civil Parish: Alloa
Town: Gaberston
County: Clackmannanshire
Address: Gaberston
KELIE James head 1814 age 37 Hand Loom Weaver (wool) England
KELIE Cecilia wife 1816 age 35 Torryburn, Fifesh
KELIE Cecilia daur 1836 age 15 Torryburn, Fifesh
KELIE Adam son 1838 age 13 Torryburn, Fifesh
KELIE James son 1840 age 11 Torryburn, Fifesh
KELIE John son 1842 age 9 Torryburn, Fifesh
KELIE David son 1844 age 7 Torryburn, Fifesh
KELIE William son 1847 age 4 Torryburn, Fifesh
KELIE Margaret daur 1850 age 1 Torryburn, Fifesh

Interesting that it has her name as 'Cecil' because this is her mother:

Cecil BLACK b. 13 Sep 1775 c. 17 Sep 1775 Torryburn, Fife, Scotland
John BLACK & Marion RAE

Adam MASTERTON & Cicil BLACK
8 Apr 1799 Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian

Although it's Cecilia here:

James KELTIE & Cecilia MASTERTON
4 Sep 1835 Torryburn, Fife

Death 1857 James KELTIE Alloa, Clackmannan Age 43

On my list to get next time I get some credits:

Regards,

Dave

Birth date is correct. Baptised on 9 Feb 1845 Torryburn.

So where was he in 1871? A baker's Ap in 1861 on Alloa.

Surname First name(s) *** Age Occupation Where Born Remarks
KELTY Adam M 55 Cotton Hand Loom Weaver Outside Census County (1841)

Adam b. Culross, Perth and Margaret b. Pathhead, Midlothian but where are the others?

Son, daughter-in-law and 2nd & 3rd of the 3 grandchildren. The eldest grandchild Adam is with the Mastertons - mother's parents.

When I search Google for 'Pathhead' the 2nd hit is for Singles Dating. ??? :2fun:

Back to David...

One of the trees has David mar. to a Georgina, b. c1845, and 1 child, Cecilia, this appears to be them with a son too, in 1881 (Scotland Census):
Name: Georgina Keltie
Age: 35
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1846
Relationship: Head
Gender: Female
Where born: England
Registration number: 465
Registration district: Alloa
Civil parish: Alloa
Town: Alloa
County: Clackmannanshire
Address: Broad Street
Occupation: General Servant
ED: 8
Household schedule number: 52
Line: 17
Roll: cssct1881_129
Cecilia Keltie 6, dau, b. Glasgow
James Keltie 4, son, b. Alloa

This may be their marriage (FS):
groom's name: David Keltie
bride's name: Georgina Keilar
marriage date: 30 Jan 1872
marriage place: Anderston, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
indexing project (batch) number: M11931-1
system origin: Scotland-ODM
source film number: 6035516
Would make sense as Cecilia b. Glasgow

Interesting Georgina possibly b. England. Still no sign of David in 1871, though if he was a seaman/traveller, he may not have been at home.

Remind me to check out Pathhead :2fun::2fun:

Hello Geoff,

Thanks.

Mother's mother
Father's father

I have no info re possible marriage for David. The details I received from a fellow researcher some years ago didn't include anything on William, David, Amos or Adam x2.

Their father James was born in England abt 1814. Still searching for that.

Regards,

Dave

Ah! Sorry, thought you wanted info on David and William.
As a matter of interest, there was this from the Glasgow PO Directory 1870-72 (but not listed in 1873):
Keltie, David, Huntershill, Quarry Office, 182 Hope St., Glasgow.

I too found that odd 1841 census... will try to follow it up.

Hello Geoff,

Yes, I'm after any info on David, William and Amos after 1861.

The marriage and the death for David are all new to me. I have nothing in what I received previously to confirm those details.

Regards,

Dave
