Hello,

I'm wondering if an occupation shows for Andrew.

Seems he died between 1841 and 1851 and I'm slowly eliminating them.

Thanks Barbara.

I can't find a death for his sister either so I'm having trouble confirming parents. Seems there were only three siblings.

Regards,

Dave

Yes Barbara I have a copy of that death certificate but other researchers claim different parents for her sister hence my search for Andrew's death.

Anne COCHRANE b. 8 Dec 1811 c. 22 Dec 1811 Gorbals, Lanark, Scotland
John COCHRAN & Janet ROSS

Ann Cochrane - found no death records in the OPR's or Statutes.

Anne Cochrane who is returned as buried in Largs 3 Jan 1843 - either recorded as Malcolm or Mrs Alexander.

You don't have Elisabeth's death then? Will that not clinch the parents. Who do the "other researchers" say are the parents. Other researchers always put that element of doubt into your probably correct research!:2fun:

This leads us back to a puzzle that was not solved last time round. We could not sort out a James HUTCHISON/HUTCHINSON who could be the nephew. Although last time I think we assumed he had to be over 21. This time round I think we'll have to go as young as 14. :2fun:

Yes I have a copy and it's yet another WYLIE.

This is the claim:

Anne COCHRANE b. 8 Dec 1811 c. 22 Dec 1811 Gorbals, Lanark, Scotland
John COCHRAN & Janet ROSS

Real pity there is no relationship (for Andrew) in 1841.

I do have this:

30/05/1834 MALCOLM ALEXANDER ANN COCHRAN/FR584 M LARGS (AYR) /AYR 602/00 0030 0341

1834 May 30 Recd. to proclaim Alexr. Malcolm of this parish and Ann Cochran Parish of Gorbels Glasgow and three Sabbaths. 6/-

But as Andrew died before registration his death might not help you much. Have you done a parents search for children (if that makes sense) on SP yet?

If this Hutchison was a nephew he might not have been too sure of the parents and said what he thought not what he knew.

I've done nothing re John COCHRAN & Janet ROSS to see what children they had.

You are right about the nephew. There is detail there re mason journeyman.

I've also done nothing yet re James COCHRAN & Jane WYLIE to see what children they had or even if there is such a marriage.

Children of John COCHRAN & Janet ROSS baptised in Gorbals:

Janet 1803
John 1805
Elizabeth 1806
Anne 1811
Margaret 1815
Jean 1819
James 1822
Mary 1823
Christian 1826

-----
I have Anne born outside Ayr age 30 in 1841 - no age on marriage record and no age at burial in 1843. Of the Parish of Gorbals in 1834.

I have Andrew age 20 in 1841 born Lanark - probably died before 1851.

I have Elizabeth born abt 1820 Glasgow. Of the Parish of Gorbals in 1835.

So Anne would fit but Elizabeth does not and there is no Andrew.

Ann's mother is Elisabeth's sister Anne COCHRANE.

Ann named one daughter Elizabeth Kerr and one son William Kerr so this has to be the origin of the middle name. Not on McLUCKIE side with Cooksley, Cairns, Draper, Farmer, Bell and Allan.

Hi Dave,

Well sorted out one part of your puzzle. Ann daughter of John and Janet Ross was married to somebody McWatt and died in 1858 aged 46 years so she is not yours.

I will send you the death by email.

Barbara
