Annie M WILLIAMS married Edmund G SALMON in 1891:

# 5209/1891 SALMON EDMUND G WILLIAMS ANNIE M MARRICKVILLE

He died in St Peters:

# 11630/1896 SALMON EDMUND G BENJAMIN G ANN ST PETERS

I have two possible death reg for Annie:

# 17980/1944 SALMON ANNIE MARIE GEORGE EMMA MANLY
# 24634/1957 SALMON ANNIE MARIA EDWARD ANN MURWILLUMBAH

Electoral roll for NSW 1930 and 1936 and Annie is living with her two daughters (Gladys Evelyn & Millicent Edna) on the 1930 and 1936 in the Lane Cove - North Sydney Division.

Do the Electoral Roll entries list Annie's middle name as Maria?

What I'm hoping to do is to find her parents and date and place of birth without purchasing certificates. If that's not possible then they get added to the list for future purchase.

Edward & Hannah Maria STANTON are not her parents because that Annie Maria WILLIAMS did not marry:

# 4754/1872 WILLIAMS ANNIE EDWARD HANNAH MARIA WATERLOO
# 12827/1926 WILLIAMS ANNIE EDWARD HANNAH M MARRICKVILLE

Thanks,

Dave

I thought it was this one:

Annie Maria WILLIAMS
b. 22 Sep 1873 England
Edward William Williams Mother: Annie Maria
Batch: C135405

Edward WILLIAMS Spouse: Anne Maria CHURCH
Marriage: 18 Mar 1873 Keston, Kent, England
Batch: M131522

Births Sep 1873 Kent
Williams Annie Woolwich 1d 920

But Annie married in 1891 and this rules this one out:

c. 26 Oct 1891 St John Baptist's, Leytonstone, Essex

Woolwich is on the Thames and just south of Leytonstone.

Hi Dave

I think there should be a ban on people marrying "WILLIAMS"

it's going to be a case of ruling one of these two out. Are you edging towards the Murwillumbah death in 1957.
I had a look at two cemetery links for Annie but no luck. A few SALMON names listed.
http://www.brandis.com.au/genealogy/gendata/tweedhd/index.html
http://cemindex.arkangles.com/

New South Wales PO Directory 1900 (Wise)
SALMON Mrs Annie, store, Railway Road, St. Peters

1891-1896 N.S.W Sands Directory
SALMON Edmund G, Railway Road, St. Peters

Do you need Edmund's death date buried at Rookwood cemetery.

1930 & 1936 N.S.W Electoral Roll – North Sydney – Lane Cove
SALMON Annie Maria 29 William Edward street, home duties
SALMON Gladys Evelyn 29 William Edward street, typiste
SALMON Millicent Rona 29 William Edward street, milliner
(note Millicent's middle name is Rona)

New South Wales Police Gazette 1899
Newtown – A warrant has been issued by the Newtown Bench for the arrest of a man named Stephenson, charged with obtaining p2 2s. from Annie Maria Salmon, at Marrickville, on the 6th instant, by means of false pretence with intent to defraud. Offender is 55 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, thin build, gray hair, whiskers and moustache, bald on top of head, mole or mark under right eye; dressed in rough gray tweed suit, brown hard felt hat and tan boots. Informant at Railway Road, St. Peters.

Hello crankypants,

Yes, and all the James HAMILTONs in Co Down too!! :D

Thank you very much. I don't have the Rookwood burial.

It is Edna, so an error in the Electoral Roll:

1703/1955 SANDS MILLICENT EDNA EDMUND ANNIE MARIA CHATSWOOD

Spouse Arthur also died in Chatswood which is east of Lane Cove. I was leaning towards the Murwillumbah one even though other family members stayed in the suburbs north of the harbour in Sydney.

I have a census query which I will post now.

Regards,

Dave

Hello crankypants,

I have checked those two cemetery links and not one of those SALMON are in my tree. I looked at all the male SALMON and descendants and all died in suburbs close to Sydney.

I'm rethinking the death place of Annie now. My branch of the family all started with Benjamin Grist b. 1822 Great Oakley who came alone to NSW in 1841 on 'William Turner' and married in 1848 in Sydney.

# 597/1890 SALMON BENJAMIN G BENJAMIN SARAH SYDNEY
21st April 1890 at Eveleigh Railway Station
Cause of Death: Apoplexy (Inquest unnecessary)
Buried on 23rd April 1890 at Wesleyan Cemetery, Rookwood

Dave

Hello crankypants,

Thank you.

A nephew of Edmund G described him thus: "He was a hunchback and from what I have heard of him, a most stubborn little man."

I am now looking at this possibility for Annie Maria:

b. 24 Dec 1865 Penarth, Glamorgan, Wales
- parents George & Emma

I found a family who arrived in NSW in 1878 on the 'Hereford'.

Regards,

Dave

Hello crankypants,

There are at least three George WILLIAMs born in Pembroke in 1841, and more if the census info is wrong.

This is a possible marriage:

Marriages Sep 1862
Price Emma Pembroke 11a 902
Williams George Pembroke 11a 902

And a possible birth:

Births Dec 1841
Price Emma Pembroke 26 630

Emma PRICE c. 2 Feb 1842 Saint Mary, Pembroke, Pembroke, Wales
Stephen & Ann

However I can't find a death for Emma in NSW with matching parents.

We need something to tie this together such as another death in Manly or a family living in Manly area or a burial...

I have looked in Macquarie Park for Annie.

Regards,

Dave

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much. That's the sort of link I was hoping we'd find. Millicent Edna married Arthur Norman SANDS and his brother lived in Mowbray Rd, about 500 m from Orchard Rd.

Hi Dave

Yes lucky find. Yesterday I didn't think to search for Annie with her initials only. When I found George in Orchard Rd it was just out of curiosity to see if a Salmon was at this address and fortunately she was.:)

Hello crankypants,

Experience, not luck :)

There is one more sibling - George b. abt 1872 but finding his birth, marriage and death is virtually impossible.

Elizabeth is also proving difficult to trace.

Hello crankypants,

I'm not going to spend much time on siblings Elizabeth and George. The one final thing I'd like to check for Annie M is why Manly? Was she living with a sibling or other family member in that area? Registration district of Manly would cover a lot of suburbs but not Lane Cove or Chatswood so she must have moved.

Please see if you can find anything. Thanks.

Yet another storm is passing over so I may have to go off line.

Hi Dave

Perhaps she died in a hospital in the Manly area or were her daughters living around this area. Actually that may be where she's buried at the Manly cemetery.

Hello crankypants,

Death:
3110/1975 SALMON GLADYS EVELYN EDMUND GOALD ANNIE MARIA

I have nothing at all on Gladys between her birth and death. I don't even know where in NSW she died.

All I can add is that she appears in the Electoral Roll for North Sydney in 1930 & 1936.

Please see what you can find.

Thanks.

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much.

:2fun: Sorry, but after being told by Ryerson last time I requested a look up to employ a professional researcher to go to the library I've completely given up on them. I have 6 outstanding requests going back 9 months. Even a friend who is an indexer re-submitted 4 of them 2 months ago and still no reply.

They changed everything on 1 Jan 2009 and no longer send volunteers to the library to do the look ups. If it is not on a CD on a home computer already then tough luck. They won't even tell you either way. If you get a private email with the details you are lucky. Ok, rant over - probably my 2nd time for that one redf)

Interesting, now I wonder if Annie was living with her. Yes, would be in Manly RD.

Please see if they happen to be on the Electoral Rolls together.

Add:

20582/1952 SANDS ARTHUR NORMAN GEORGE HENRY ELIZA ANN CHATSWOOD
Funeral - late of Manly? - Service 5 Sep 1952 11 am for Northern Suburbs Crematorium - Ernest Andrews Chatswood.

That mention of Manly in the funeral notice always puzzled me.

1703/1955 SANDS MILLICENT EDNA EDMUND ANNIE MARIA CHATSWOOD

I wonder if they were living in the Manly area but had both deaths registered in Chatswood for some reason.

Thanks.

Dave

Hi Dave

I put in a request last night and got a reply back within two hours. Only a small article.

SALMON, Gladys Evelyn - January 27, 1975. late of Fairlight, at hospital, beloved sister of Millicent Sands (deceased).

This year I've been lucky with request death lookups. However last year I had a chap telling me I should take out a sub with SMH, I told him not everyone can afford there expensive subs.
I did though take out a one month sub last year when I was still on dial-up and that was my biggest mistake because the articles took forever to open which was really frustrating.
