Annie Wade/Laura Wade a bit of a conundrum

Hi, i dont know if anyone can shed any light on this.

Annie Wade was born 6th July 1897 at 67 Cumberland Street West Hartlepool, Birth cert states no father.
She married Horace Sidney Carter 1918 West Hartlepool, in the Father column says John Hovington Wade deceased, Marine Engineer. witnesses Thomas William Brown, Lily Susannah Wade.

Laura Wade her sister (who was adopted Annie never knew her), was born 8th Aug 1898 at 26 Alfred Street West Hartlepool, Birth cert states no father.
She married John Shield in 1921 West Hartlepool, in the Father column it says John Ovington Wade deceased, Chief Engineer. Witnesses W shield, E Shield.

firstly how can he be called Wade, Lily their mother never married, on Laura's it's Ovington, Annie's it's Hovington, i know it could have been an easy mistake, on Annie's in 1918 he was a Marine Engineer, Laura's in 1921 he was a chief engineer.
Also Laura's middle name on her marriage cert is Ovington, no mention of it on her birth cert.

If anyone can come up with any ideas i would be very happy .
