Another family mystery?

My great Aunt Martha Murray married an Herbert Jones 3rd quarter 1883 in Edmonton.
In the 1871 Census they are there with 4 children and Herbert is there as Herbert Jones 28 born West Bromwich and 4 children Maud, Herbert, Louisa and Annie.
So far so good but in the 1901 census
They are all listed with a 'B' as a middle name :- Herbert B Jones
All the children are still there.

In the 1911 census they are now all listed with the 'B' now shown as Brant.
Only 3 of the children are listed the 4th Maud Brant Jones is listed but crossed out!

There is a listing for the Daughters marriage to a Frederick W Blasing with the daughter shown as Maud Jones Brant.
Father is listed as Herbert Jones Brant and mother Martha Jones Brant?

Very, very strange just where did the Brant come from, so far I haven't been able to find Herberts birth in West Bromwich so cannot see if his mother was a Brant which could be an answer but not to the name reversal!

Any other guesses!

Hi Peter,

Looking at the baptism for Herbert Brant fathers name is Beniah and mother Sarah. Fathers name is the same as on Herberts marriage certificate.

Do you have a link for that marriage was it to Maud Murray?

Hi Peter,

I've been looking at the censuses. The only Jones connection I can find is a John Jones nephew born about 1850 London. Beniahs mother was Caroline looks like she remarried to a Joseph Hamblett. I've not found a marriage for this couple though.

Hi Peter. Herbert has his father as Beniah Johns (not Brant) occ labourer on the marriage.

Thanks for the info but I must be doing something wrong as on both Antree and FMP I can find no way to input a direct link to the 1891 census you quoted!

I have seen the input screen on Antree but for the life of me I cannot do it now, very infuriating - why they cannot leave things alone it was much easier before!!!

Sometimes you get the option to put the references in but normally you don't!
All very strange it was never as difficult as it is now!

This family is getting me very confused, are they Brant'/s or Jones's.
If you have the reference for the marriage of Martha Murray I would like it otherwise I will send for the certificate.

What details do you have for Martha?

I have her birth date Mar quarter 1865 in Islington and found her in the 1871 census when she was 6.
And then zilch - not found her again or a death for her but the family is good at changing names!
It seems somewhat strange as other members are found for several census's so a death is quite possible.
