My ancestor William Balaam wed Sarah Muncaster in October 1759 in Tendring, Essex. Witnesses William Wilson and John Higham. William was a husbandman and Sarah was still a spinster. Muncaster/Monkaster is a surname that is extremely rare in Essex, and is common in Northern England. Tendring is in North East Essex and only a couple or so miles from the sea.

An Alice Moncaster is buried in nearby Thorpe Le Soken in 1741. Inbetween 1700 and 1780, no other instances of the surname can be found in Essex. I do have a feeling Sarah's family were not from Essex, and due to the maritime history of the county, they may have moved down to Essex at some point.

I reckon Sarah Muncaster had ancestry from up North, or was born there. If she wed in 1759 as a spinster, she was about 20 to 25 at the time. Their last child baptised in 1778. I think she died in the 1790s as I found a likely burial in Tendring but no age given.
