Anthony Barry and a lady Bamford

Anthony Barry and Sarah Ann Bamford

I am looking to find out the name of my Great Grandmother Bamford and living relatives of Alma Law

My Grandmother was Edith Tilstone (born Edith Barry in Rochdale 8e 52) Married to Leslie Tilstone 1939 Rochdale 8e 79
In my research I have found that her father's name was Anthony Barry and her Mothers maiden name was Bamford
I cannot find the name of my Great grandmother (Bamford) or when/if they were married.

I Found that My grandmother Edith (Born april 1920) had 2 siblings, Alma (1921 Rochdale 8e 60) and William (1914 Rochdale 8e 69 ) but William died young (1916 8e 33)

Alma married a man named Robert Law (1943 Middleton 8d 990)
, she passed away in the first quarter of 1994 (So did my Grandmother Edith here in South Africa)
I would also like to find any of Alma's living relatives since her and my grandmother were separated at a young age.
I remember my grandmother saying that they never knew their mother since she died while they were very young and their father died when they were around the age of 5 years.
My Grandmother was raised by her aunt Edith Bamford (whom i also can not seem to pin point) her sister Alma was raised by someone else but she could never say who it was.

I would also like more information on the Tilstone's however i know of a couple of living relatives.

Hi,

After a bit of searching this is what I have come up with. Though you do need to get your grandmothers birth certificate to confirm he mothers name. BMD certificates can be ordered from here.

Death - June 1922 - Rochdale

Sarah A Barry age 34 - born about 1889

Marriage - 1908 - Rochdale - Jul/Aug/Sept

Sarah Ann Bamford
There's no grooms listed with Sarah

There is this chap who married 1908 Rochdale Jul/Aug/Sept

Philip Henry Russell 2 grooms listed and one bride.

There is a death also in 1922 Rochdale for a Anthony Barry, though there could be more than one. I cant find a death that fits for Philip Henry Russell born 1889.

Hi,

There's a family tree that has Philip Henry Russell marrying Sarah Ann Bamford. They have a son Charles Henry. There is no other information for Sarah but Philip married Lucy Dakin in 1919.

Could it be that both Anthony Barry and Sarah Ann Bamford where married Before?
Could you Find any age information on Anthony Barry, the Anthony I found (dont know if its the right one) was born 1878 and got married to a Margaret Burke.
He lived with John and Sarah Connel during the 1911 census he is listed as a relative with status married but no name for his wife at the same adress, however two children are listed but because the lived with the Connel family they too are listed as relatives it doesnt say whether they are Anthony's children but they do share the surname Barry

Sarah Ann Bamford does fit though except that their first child was born in 1914 but the other two were born after 1918.

Is there any thing else on the son Charles Henry?

On closer inspection i found Sarah Barry is also listed with Anthony, as living with John Connel but with status "single".
Margaret Barry (Burke) was living as a boarder with a Huxley family and she passed away in 1912.

I'll have a look later for any other information, have been out today so haven't had much time to do anything. The tree on Ancestry has Charles Henry Russell death 6 June 1991 - Gisborne, New Zealand. Brother Frederick Robert Massey Russell died 3 Jan 1980. I did come across another birth registration for a William Russell 1914 - Rochdale - Mothers maiden name Bamford.

Gortonboy: thanks i received your pm, I am definitely going to make work of that lead.

Juliejtp and Gibbo: thank you all of the information is welcome no matter what and where from.
At the end of the day i will be adding it all together and then that extra information may just open another door in the family history.

My mother still has some letter and books of my Grandfather's where his Father and mother's name are in as Daniel and Annie-Maria but i wasnt sure about her maiden name, now i know.
His Brother was indeed Clifford and my Mother still have some contact with Clifford's wife.

There are some other names as well (i cant remember them from the top of my head right now) one of then are Lillian Tilstone but I have no idea if she was a sister/ sister in law or a cousin or aunt.

Okay following the instructions: Husband's petition for divorce respondent and co respondent, I assume this mean Phillip Russel asked for the divorce because Anthony Barry was already in the picture.

I cant find any Records there for Margaret Barry (Burke), but according to my research she passed away in 1912 so probably she and Anthony Barry were probably never divorced which could be why they were recorded in the 1911 census as Anthony(Married) and Sarah (Single) Margaret(Single at a different address)

Sarah Barry 1886 (incedently the one listed living with him in the 1911 census)
Parents
Patrick Barry Born 1833 in Limerick Kilmalloch Ireland
And Sarah (??) Born 1841( who once again i'm having trouble finding her maiden name)
It would seem that Patrick Barry could have had 3 wives
in the census of
1861 it was Cathrine
1871 it was Frances
1881 it was Sarah
And Sarah Barry(mother of Anthony) born 1841 seems to have disappeared after the 1881 census but, Anthony was living with John and Sarah Connell during the 1901 Census where he was listed as "Son"(in 1911 census he was listed as relative) so possibly his mom got married to John Connell but i can find a Sarah Barry marrying a John Connell and her birth year differs....

Then on the Tilstone side Daniel(1885) and Annie Maria(Stevenson)(1888 ) Are the parents of my grandfather Leslie James Tilstone but there are a lot of Daniel Tilstone's in Wolstanton for that era and it seems that my Great grandfather Daniel Tilstone could have been Daniel Tilstone the 5th... His father Daniel Tilstone being born 1857 and his mother Mary(no info found).

I found Annie Maria Stevenson's mother to be Sarah (maiden name unknown) Born in Hanley Staffordshire 1848, but so far i could not find Annie Maria's Father.
