Hi, I've just joined this forum and am keen to help trace my step dad's ancestry as he has been showing a keen interest in it lately.... perhaps because his memory of late seems to be getting worse although his memory of the past seems to be getting clearer :)

His name is Albert Leslie Bibby and was born on 22nd December 1933. He was born (and still lives) in Connah's Quay, Flintshire, North Wales. I know his mother was called Hilda and by our reckoning, she was born in July 1899 and died in December 1950. His dad was called Albert also, and we believe he was born in January 1893.

His mother was the daughter of (best guess is "Annie") and she was in Service somewhere in Lancashire, maybe Blackpool and we believe that she (Annie) got pregnant by the son of the house where she served.

Hilda was the result of this secret affair but she was passed to her uncle (Annie's brother?) to be brought up in the North Wales area. We have no idea who her dad was and this is of great interest to us although, I doubt very much that his details would have been recorded on the birth certificate!

My step dad, Les as he is known, didn't marry until December 2001 when he married my mum, Brenda Bibby (nee Robinson, nee Evans)

Les, (my step dad) has a half brother Ray who also lives in Connah's Quay, Flintshire and had a sister, Dorothy who is dead now, but I'll have to get the details on her at a later date, but I believe she was born in 1951, earlier in the same year that her mother died.

Anyway, if somebody could point me in the right direction for beginning this search, then I would be extremely grateful.

Many thanks......

Chrissy x

Geez.... how do you get all this information so quickly (and for free?) Thank you so much already :)

Nothing to corroborate the story, but Les is pretty certain that it is factual as it was his mother that told him about it - it's not one of these stories that has been stretched out over generations, so I would take an educated guess that it's probably true.

Hilda was brought up by her uncle and his surname was Ellis, this is the name she had before marrying and we can only assume it was also her mother's surname as she was unwed at the time of Hilda's birth?

Any information would be really appreciated as I think this is something that Les would like to get done before he "leaves" us :(

Pen y Llan Street is the street that Les was born in, literally!! Yes, that would probably be her although he was convinced that she was 51 when she died and that was in the same year that his sister was born, which he told me was 1950 (thus I deduced that Hilda must have been born in 1899)

I will have to verify the dates with him and confirm these details.

Thank you so much - you've found out more in half an hour than I could have done in a year!!

looking for the marriage of Alexander Bibby and Sarah,,,,,,cant see them in 1891 census,,,but as the daughter Emily, was born in Dunbarton,Scotland in 1890,,,maybe they were still in Scotland in 1891,,and maybe married there? i cant access Scottish marriages,,,so you might have to post a seperate request on the Scotland board :)
