Anyone know what this is?

Rural Messenger. On the 1871 census for my gggrandfather, but on the census before and after he was a rope maker. Think there might have been a mistake when the census was taken?

Hi Gladys,

Googled rural messenger couldnt find any discription for it. Perhaps he did change jobs and it wasnt a mistake on the census, poor bloke proberly he got fed up with running round the country side delivering all those messages from one big house to another and wanted a job that wasnt so energetic.

Reckon half the stuff on the census is rubbish. I think the enumerators put something down and then can't read their writing!
