Hi, i'm new to this forum & i'm looking for anything helpful with finding definite document proof of my great great great grandfather Archibald Mckeachan & his wife Ann Mcniven, born 1767 & 1768 respectively, married 1780's? parents of Archibald Mckeachan born 12/10/1804 who marries Janet Mckay in around 1833. Son Donald my great grandfather born 1845, died 6/10/1895 who married Catherine Wilkinson 26/03/1874.
its parents, siblings of Archibald b.1767 is my brick wall, as lack of documentary proof is hampering pushing the family tree as far back as i can.
Malcolm b.1741 married to Mary Johnston approx 1760? are potential parents but i have no document proof, pure assumption only as dates/names kind of fit!
many thanks i anticipation
ian

Hi Solidrock2 thanks for your reply, campbeltown & the kintyre peninsula was in the mckeachan clan hands, until mid 1600's but we upset king james & the lands became campbells land, not that it totally ended the clan in the area but i've seen other factions in Rothsay also.
there are a variety of spellings include mckiachan mckichan which doesn't really help matters
i've also had possible birth year for archibald at around 1775 similar year for ann, but your above for Ann seems to give me hope that i'm kinda heading in the right direction

Archibald mckiachan apparently was a tailor, potential 1st son John 1787/8 was also a tailor m Catherine Campbell 10/05/1823 dies aged 91 3/2/1819, then Dugald 1789, Donald 1801, Archibald 1804, Duncan 1807, but gaps could mean other siblings,
1767 Archibald could be Malcolm as below 17/5/1741but more detail like the mother would have helped

I did also find a Margaret in 1812 to Archibald and Ann at Kilmeny but not finding a marriage so it is very difficult to be sure of the parentage of the couple when we don't know the eldest son. Where are you finding Dugald? Was he born elsewhere?

Hi Barbara, i do have an 1812 Margaret, somehow forgot her, not sure where i found Dugald, i have his birth as 23/1/1789, but appears it was Kilcalmonell And Kilberry,Argyll, somehow i missed this, so he's a bit of an outsider at the least, i need to forget him i think, but likely was looking to fill the gap after John & got carried away!

It is hard when the records are likely to be not complete. And it is a name which is spelled so many different ways but quite common in that area. I would be careful of jumping to any conclusions. Have you found any graves for the couple? I think that is the way I would be going if it were my family. A grave may give you children who have died too.

I think that Archibald married Christan Campbell.

Hi Barbara, yeah its been hard, and i'll make mistakes before, now & in the future Dugald may of been a hint that i should took more time over & have rejected, graves are another avenue which haven't found anything so far, but needs further investigating thank you

Thanks solidrock2 i do have the death cert, i know that Ann surname is slightly different which i put down to Alexander not fully sure of Ann's maiden name or registrar error but i think its the same Archd & Ann.
my thoughts on Archd & Christian is they are born around 1705 & 1703, potetially they marry 22/11/1724, son Malcolm is born as per the register entry in 1741, i think that Malcolm marries roughly 1760 as there is a Finlay in 1761 whose a potential elder brother to Malcolm
thank you
