Hi all, can someone help me please? My great grandfather James Hudson, was in the 52nd Foot Regiment, which became the 2nd Battalion, Oxfordshire Light Infantry around 1880. Does anyone know how I could obtain a copy of his service record please???

You could be a while searching as typing James Hudson into findmypast's military section brings up 2,038 entries! Putting in the name/number of the Regiment or Battalion brings up nothing.

You could try The Royal Green Jackets Museum in Winchester where VC's from the 52nd of Foot are on show. I'm sure they will point you in the right direction.
The system of getting service records even for WWII is strictly controlled, you need number rank and full name at least and they want to know how you are related i.e. next of kin etc., Whether service records for the latter part of the 19th Century are obtainable is questionable, but the Museum will know.
Best of Luck.
