There's an Arthur Alfred Adlam living at 89 Kippax St Sydney, retired, in the 1930 electoral roll.

Can we prove there is only one Arthur Alfred and that the one born 1852 died after 1930?

Thanks.

Hi Dave

New South Wales, Australia, Entrance Books for the Vernon and the Sobraon, 1867-1911
Arthur Alfred Adlam
Date Received: 5 Jun 1867
Ship: Vernon

I've sent a copy of the image, it's not easy to read but will tolerate a little enlarging.

If this is the same one it probably highlights why he is in Darlinghurst Gaol.

Thanks Geoff.

I'll check the newspapers then. The use of a prison hulk in Australia is news to me.

Although there is no middle name I know the 1852 birth in Melbourne is that of Arthur Alfred:

The Sydney Morning Herald - Wednesday 26 August 1874 p. 1
MARRIAGES
ADLEM - VICKERS.-August 24, at Christ Church, by the Rev. Edward B. Proctor, Arthur Alfred Adlem, second son of Samuel Adlem, Esq., of Clarence-street, to Ellen Vickers, only daughter of J. Vickers, Esq., 192 Sussex-street.

Christ Church Sydney
Arthur Alfred Adlem Bachelor Melbourne Driver of Parcel Delivery 20 Sydney Samuel Adlem Harriet West ? Mail driver of Mudgee ?
Ellen Vickers Spinster Tasmania 19 Sydney Joshua Vickers Ellen (Surname unknown) ?
married in Parish Church of S. Lawrence (Christ Church) Sydney
[No date but next is dated Sept 15, 1874] By me Edward B. Proctor
Arthur signed, Ellen her x mark
Witnesses: G. S. Hanslip, Emma (her x mark) Hanslip

Ok we have Arthur Alfred in 1852 and then 1867 then 1872 and then 1874. Can we jump to 1930 ?

Dave

It is hard to follow, can't even use his occupation in 1930 because it just says, retired. I can only find two deaths both in 1931 but wrong parents.

I wonder if this is him going from Sydney to Melbourne, the image gives nothing away, except one male, single!

Mr A Adlem
Departure Date: 30 Sep 1902
Destination Port: Melbourne
Ship: Wodonga

Thanks Geoff.

I'll look through the pre 1930 NSW E/R one day at the library.

More searching needed to see if any other births can be found in NSW or Vic for an Arthur. So far I've not found any children of A A and Ellen.

More searching in TROVE needed.

One problem is that the name appears as ADLEM, ADLAM, ADLOM, ADLER.

Thanks Geoff.

That might be the son of Arthur William.

Seems middle names are not always being used. So some of the hits for 'Arthur' are those for 'Arthur William' and some perhaps for his son.

Marriage 8102/1899 ADLUM ARTHUR W - HALL ETHEL G V - GLEBE

That bit is sorted.

One I want to eliminate next is Arthur James who died in 1931 aged 84. Don't know where he fits in yet. Parents John & Louisa don't sound familiar. He might be the one in 1930 E/R.

Marriage ?
7662/1894 ADLAM ARTHUR J - LEVETT SARAH A - YOUNG
