I have found the family of Arthur Edward Murray in Holywell, newquay cornwall, Arthur is listed on the census but his name is crossed out!
He was alive at the time as he died in 1949 in St Austall.
I have done a search for him but no results.
SO why was his name crossed out!! Was he somewhere esle and didnt get listed!

Arthur Edward Murray, age 48, Solicitor, was a boarder at the Ceylonvilla Hotel, 2 Houndescombe Place, Plymouth Devon on census night, so he was not at home.

Hi Peter
You often find additional people on the 1911 census. The person filling in the census can put the names of deceased or married children, as well as names of people who are not actually at home on the night of the census. You can find that a person is recorded twice, once at home where he usually resides, and again where he actually was, ie boarding house, (as seems to be your case). The mistake can be realised and the result is a crossing out. I have found children, who have died and were not on any census, this way.

Thanks everyone, this info closes another brickwall!!
I wonder what the percentage of miss information was inherant in the census's.

Makes one wonder how we find any correct info at all.

After all that it appears that he is not the correct one!!
Somewhere along the line the second name has changed to edward should be Ernest!
Many a slip etc

Most of us have dodgy trees...full of untruths and covered up info.

Most of the untruths or mistakes on a census i would imagine is down to this.

Most of the mis information has a more reliable word...lies:eek:

Just found out from another family researcher that The Arthur Edward Murray in the family emigrated to South Africa in about 1908 so all links on the 1911 census are definitley wrong!

People with the same name ..... argh!

Oh well all sorted now back to the brick walls!
