A lot has happened overnight - thankyou everyone!

So to recap, Arthur was born to Fanny SHAWYER before Fanny married William HAMILTON.
Arthur did enlist in the Army but he is not the one in Egypt.
(I did know Arthur and he was not a tall man, very quiet spoken, warm and sociable, hard to imagine him in the army. He lived 85yrs).
He is probably the one who migrated 1910 to Fremantle, West Aust.

So was Fanny married previously to a SHAWYER or was Arthur born out of wedlock. Is there any way of finding that out?

Was William HAMILTON born 1839 or 1859 according to Census?

Thanks so much for sorting the Arthur's out,
Much appreciated,
Sashar

Hello Sashar,

So was Fanny married previously to a SHAWYER or was Arthur born out of wedlock. Is there any way of finding that out?

Was William HAMILTON born 1839 or 1859 according to Census?
We will try to answer both of those.

Births Mar 1869
Shawyer Mary Ann E F Portsea 2b 402

Regards,

Dave

Thankyou for the info on Arthur's mother. I would love a bit more info on her background if you are able and when you get time.

Someone sent me this ages ago but not sure if it is accurate:-
1891 Census - Chiswick
Harr... Hamilton Head 1844 Chatham Surrey
Fanny ditto wife 1869 Portsmouth Hampshire
Arthur ditto Son 1889 Chiswick
Alice ditto daughter 1877 ditto
Ada ditto ditto 1879 ditto

That gives the impression Wm. (in 1891) may have been born 1844 Surrey. His birth seems all over the place. Maybe he was born HAMMERTON not HAMILTON?

Thanks again for your help,
Sashar

No sign of a birth reg for a William HAMMERTON not HAMILTON that fits in Surrey.

William is proving hard to find in earlier years - pob not listed as Turnham Green or Chiswick.

If Wickham is correct then it is in Hampshire and it would be this reg:

Births Mar 1849
Shawyer Henry Fareham 7 94

If Wickham is wrong but Sussex is correct then there is this one:

Births Jun 1848
Shawyer Henry Westhampnett 7 553

I just checked a tree on GR that has this family and they have the birth that you found above.
They also have:-
Father of William b.1843: Henry William HAMMERTON b.1807 Chiswick m. 1833 Ealing?(person with tree swaps between HAMILTON and HAMMERTON, so not sure which is correct)
Mother of William b. 1843: Sarah WATSON b.1810 Chiswick

William b.1843's siblings:-
Esther 1830
Mary 1831
Sarah 1832
Elizabeth 1834
Jane 1836
Henry 1837
Susan 1839
Ann 1841
Isaac 1845
James 1847
Joseph 1851
James 1851
Sarah 1851

If that seems right I will follow the rest of that tree.

They don't have anything about Arthur, probably because he was a SHAWYER not a HAMILTON as you've found.

So much interesting information, thankyou so much for your help,
Sashar

If Sarah WATSON is correct I can't find the marriage.

I can't find a birth/baptism around 1807 for William's father with any combination of names.

I can't find a birth/baptism for Esther or Mary. Ah. Three listed as being born before the marriage:

Not good when you can't prove the tree starts off with correct info.

At last something:

Births Sep 1841
Hammilton Ann Brentford 3 11

Births Mar 1845
Hammilton Isaac James Brentford 3 18

Thanks for checking Dave,

Yes I agree, I don't like copying what others have found. I thought I'd just throw that at you to see what you came up with. I'm glad I did now.

Many thanks,
Sashar

Good move. It may be 100% correct but I can't say so yet.

Just ask if you want any specific look ups and one of the members here will try to help. Some have access to sources that I don't.

The one I'd like to find is the 1833 ? marriage. I can't see it even going back to 1825.

Thankyou barbarajoh,
I did find a bit of the 1901 census online where someone is researching the FLETCHER family. They had Lily's son Frank Nelson FLETCHER aged 10 with grandparents Henry and Fanny. They didn't mention the rest of the family.

All fitting together well,
Appreciate your help,
Sashar

Thought I'd just post this new information that was given to me, appreciate your opinions :)

Baptism record found for Arthur Shawyer 12th may 1889 with birth date 14/4/1889, parents Harry Shawley & Fanny Shawley at Turnham Green which is in Chiswick.
Harry is a police constable.

14th April 1889 is the correct birthdate for the Arthur Shawyer Hamilton I am researching.

So  what's happening here?

Is there a marriage, census, that could fit the theory that Harry and Fanny SHAWLEY/SHAWYER were Arthur's parents. Harry possibly died and Fanny remarried HAMILTON?

More confused,
Sashar

I'm a bit slow - just realised Harry is Henry SHAWYER.

As Arthur ends up with the HAMILTON family, I guess it is highly likely he is the son of Fanny SHAWYER d.o. Harry/Henry and Fanny SHAWYER - and the grandson of Harry/Henry and Fanny SHAWYER even though they are down as the parents on Arthur's baptism.

Got a bit confused - again!
